For the price of this supercharger, you could buy a 1ZZ-FE and TRD supercharger. With a little ingenuity, you could do a swap into your MKII and have something very reliable.

You can find them used for reasonable prices if you're patient. 1zz's are dirt cheap

Don't know if anyone is still interested in this but I am. This is my first post and I know many will want to let the flames fly but this is my reasoning. From the school of plug and play and do it yourself. I know I could pay someone to do the Turbo swap for me almost for the price of supercharging and getting lesser outright horsepower but hear me out. I like the immediacy of supercharged horses and would just feel better knowing I did it right rather than someone else maybe did it right. Please bring back this kit Ripp Mods or get a group buy together. I have the money and want it like yesterday. So far can't find one anywhere.

no one ever bought one because they suck.
if you need to pay someone to install a factory bolt up turbocharged engine, why do you think a one-off custom untuned supercharger on an engine never designed for it would give you any less hassle? the rippmods supercharger DOESNT offer immediate boost, its rpm dependent. it is more linear than a turbo, but it still has a dead spot down low. if you want a supercharger, buy one and take it into a shop and tell them to install it. toss them a few thousand bucks and it'll get done, and still come in cheaper than than the rippmods thing. |

Well for one thing I would think that installing a supercharger could be accomplished without dropping the engine which is the main impediment to me doing my own turbo install ie. no lift.
Next you say that on one bought one but I am willing to bet that someone bought some or they would be in stock somewhere. I will talk to my local shop about a custom install of a SC and see what they say. Turbos def have lag and superchargers can or can not depending on type. I was thinking relatively low boost and around 200 hp ish. Seems like a good thing. |

A couple of things here.
First; adding a super charger to a high milage NA engine without going through it and at least replacing seals and inspecting the bottom end is just asking for trouble. Installing this thing with the engine in the car would have to be a colossal PITA. Second; I would be shocked if you got anywhere near 200 crank hp, let alone 200 whp, with this thing. The 5sfe is rated at 135 bhp and unless your engine has very low miles and has had impeccable maintenance you likely don't have that anymore. Not to rain on your parade but if you want 200hp (bhp OR whp) then you're just wasting your time with the 5sfe. There are much better ways of getting there.

They actually posted some stuff either on celica.net back in the day, or even celicatech.com... I dont remember which one, but its a centrifugal supercharger, so its kinda peaky, and it didnt give any better power, response, or anything over just a basic CT26 based 5SFTE kit.
It just wasnt worth doing. Cool idea, just way too expensive for what you got. |

OK now this idea is seriously half baked but I can't help but wonder why nobody has thought of this before....
What about mating up the SC14 from the Previa SC to the 5S-FE. I was thinking that even non intercooled low boost application might mate up pretty well and with larger injectors might make for a relatively low cost solution to the power problems with the 5S. Could the standard fuel control handle this? Just wondering out loud. |

the sc14 is a terrible supercharger. theres absolutely no reason to use anything worse than an eaton supercharger.

well, i started this thread and i would like to say.. i got 148 rwhp. NA and I was going to supercharge it.. and did a lot of research. .I'm giong to turbo it instead. I don't want to swap bc i want to stay with what I have in the car. Besides upgrading it. My three car garage is almost done so the turbo upgrade will be on SOON. I have another 5 g's for upgrades. I want to be the 5S-FE king!
