5S-FE surging at low throttle angle?
hi all, I recently picked up a 91 na, Rescued is more like it. I saved the car from previous owner who has posted on this site before, and was attempting to "rice it out" Any ways i have already corrected alot of crappy work that has been done to this veh. I am having a strange problem at very low throttle input, like stop and go traffic, the engine feels like it is surging, or on/off throttle feel. i have already installed new throttle cables, and properly adjusted them.
I just wanted check and see if anyone has had this issue before with their 5sfe. thanks, any info greatly appreciated. |

Is the motor surging all by itself when it's at idle or when you're applying throttle?

sounds like a vacum line or something, make sure you got all the sensors and vacum lines are pluged in and unplug the battery then plug it back in to reset the computer. Tell me if it works or not I know some people that might know better than I do but I won't talk to them tell later tomarrow.

i looked into it further, it appears that the throttle opening valve is causing the problem, i just have not had time to test it. i'm pretty sure i can just apply vaccuum to the diaphram to allow the throttle plate to completely close and then give'er a test drive. I'll try this and post results later tonight.

i finally figured out the problem the TPS was shot, it had a flat spot just off idle. I put a new tps on the throttle body, and set the resistance. the engine runs great now.
