well i don't drive my car, it has some bad frame damage in the front, check my garage pics if you want to. i just start the car up every now and then just to run it and hear it's pretty sound. the car has 139,000 on it, and the guy i got it from didn't say anything about him doing the belts or anything, i don't even have a clue when the oil was changed.

im talkin about the smoke and the squeel.
Smoke: small-med puff on start then done Squeel: only for about 1-1.5 seconds tops, only on start then done. |

First thing I do when i get a used car... change the oil, plugs, and filters... check all of the fluids and topoff/replace as necessary. I would start by doing that first.
Always assume the previous owner was full of SH!T! They are not trying to be honest... they are trying to get rid of something they don't want anymore. |

same here, the guy didn't even say anything was messed up with the frame, he told me about the rust and everything, and i just blew that off. bubt he didn't say a thing about the frame or and only told me about 24% of the rust. i got the car home and started taking the bumpers and everything off, and i was like HOLY ****!

if you would read my thread about my rear suspension. you will find out how the last owner hide that from me. part of it was also my fault, im not gonna lie, coz i was too excited to own one. but the last owner lied about the engine and its miles.
runabout93 you are completely right. but i look at it this way, still as a good thing that i got my mr2 even though its really in bad shape. atleast now i know about it more and since im planning on buying another one in the next year or so. this time i know what i need to look for and im more experience. and did i mention when i was buying my mr2 i checked the coolant and my God i knew right at that moment they dont take care if this coz the coolant is BROWN. |

me too i was WAY excited to finally be on the verge of owning a MR2 finally, i wanted one for over 6 years, and i finally had a chance so i bought it right there. i don't want to buy a new one though, i kinda want to fix everything on this one, just so i can have a car that i did all the work on. but if it comes down to it and i HAVE to buy a new one, then i guess i have to. but buying cars in Minnesota sucks cuz it's hard to find a decently cheap one that doesn't have major problems or alot of rust.

blue smoke is oil. if its doing it after startup its most likely valve guides. the oil leaks down the valves and onto the piston and causes the smoke on startup. its pretty common on older cars and i wouldnt worry about it too much. i dont think a compression test or a leak down isnt gonna tell you if the valve guides are bad cause if you are doing it properly then the valves are gonna be closed. no way for the air from the leak down test to get up there. if you ever take you head in to get work done on it then thats the time you get the valve guides fixed. |

If your car sat for a period of time in its life the valve seals might have dried out, causing smokeing at the start. i also had the squel problem. tentioning only lasted about a month before i just decided to replace belts
