Replacing bushings and ball joint/tie rod ends
I am going to be changing the ball joints and tie rod ends. I will also be replacing all the rubber bushings. The parts are from Twos R Us and are pictured below and there are links to the exact products. I like these but if anyone can suggest a better product please do. This is not for track/race, just good handling street ride.
Is there anything else I should change or replace while I have these parts of the car disassembled? The car is a 91 MK2 N/A 5spd. If you have done these parts changes before and have any useful information about what to expect during replacement of these parts thats cool too. ![]() Bushings link: Twos R Us - Parts for Toyotas from Club MR2 $115 Ball joint tie rod end link: Twos R Us - Parts for Toyotas from Club MR2 $150 I might also try to tackle the struts while I have it apart. I guess I'll use the ones from Twos R US. GR-2 gas struts. |

the bushings are 80 bucks on ebay. exact same brand, product, and packaging.. just cheaper.
the twosrus balljoints are toyota ball joints. ive never found a cheaper price for oem ball joints. ive also never found an aftermarket front joint that fits the front(they're too long!). it might be worth shooting lithia toyota an email/message to check their pricing. for rears id save money and buy 555 brand ball joints. im almost positive those tie rod ends arent oem, so you can make a call on paying that price for non oem ends. im sure they're fine, but theres cheaper options. your car will drive like a freakin new car after all that stuff, you'll be glad you did it! you need a big heavy hammer to remove the ball joints. |

I will do a write up, but may not be able to do it this week. I think I'm going to do struts at the same time. What struts should I get and where should I get them?

While you are at it, you might think about replacing your drop links. Mine were pretty rusty, but I do live in Michigan. Also, my strut mounts were basically rotted hunks of metal. The fronts were so bad that I didn't even need a wrench to get them off the strut, I could just work them off by hand.
I just got my front struts out and I am waiting for some parts, so if you have any questions I might be able to help. There is a sticky in the suspension section My New Suspension Parts Have Arrived :) that give a good run-down on how to get your struts out. I will also be replacing my bushings and I got the ones from eBay for $92 shipped. I was planning on doing a write up once I have them installed. Will probably take me a couple weeks before I have it done. |

Wow so you don't just come on here to talk about drinking.
J/k. I wish I could be of more help, but shifter cables broke on my car and needed the money for that. I just bought a backup car and I'm probably gonna rest the MR2. GL |

Here is a link for an entire kit (Tie rods and ball joinnts)...
eBay Motors: SET SUSPENSION TOYOTA MR2 91-95 4 BALL 4 TIE ROD END (item 140165562200 end time Nov-04-07 18:30:22 PST) You have to call them and let them know that you do not want the inner tie rods if you have manual power steering... They will adjust the price and you will be in good shape... If you have power steering keep the kit complete and ignore the link for the manual steering inner tie rods... Also check to make sure that they send the correct ball joints... They sent me the wrong ones but corrected the problem quickly and I did not have to pay anymore shipping or anything... Here is a link for some cheap (in price, not quality) inner tie rods for manual steering... eBay Motors: NEW INNER TIE ROD END for 91-95 TOYOTA MR2 #101-4175 (item 130131728511 end time Dec-02-07 07:11:47 PST) Here is the link for bushings: eBay Motors: 91-95 Toyota MR2 Prothane Suspension Bushing Kit (item 290176894748 end time Nov-08-07 09:16:17 PST) I have used and am still using all of these parts with no problem and have saved approx $150.00 by my calculations by going this route... Hope this helps you... |

Quote:
ask for the price for the kit linked ( eBay Motors: SET SUSPENSION TOYOTA MR2 91-95 4 BALL 4 TIE ROD END (item 140165562200 end time Dec-04-07 18:30:22 PST) ) above minus the inner tie rods, Then hit the buy now button, Pay the price they quoted you and note that you need: Outter tie rods all 4 ball joints and do not need: The inner tie rods... Then go to the inner tie rods link ( eBay Motors: NEW INNER TIE ROD END for 91-95 TOYOTA MR2 #101-4175 (item 130131728511 end time Dec-02-07 07:11:47 PST) ) for ebay and purchase (2) of them since they are sold individually... |
