Instrument Cluster
I have a '93 NA (manual transmission), and am in need of an instrument cluster.....I'm watching ebay, and there is a JDM (in KPH and made for a RHD car) cluster there....two questions...
1) Anyone know of a better source? and 2) Will the JDM cluster fit without wiring changes? Thanks, rvicke (Rick) Sophia_small.JPG Last edited by rvicke; 10-05-2007 at 01:17 AM. |

I'm pretty sure I have a 93 cluster. I'll do some checking. As for you question, I'm not really sure.

I've looked to the procedure to diagnose the tach, but can't find anything online, so my next step is to find a replacement as the likelihood of both the tach and speedo problems being outside the cluster is slim, I would think. When I bought the car, I had a small leak in the tranny fixed, a new timing belt installed (of course, new seals front and new water pump at the same time), and had that guy check the tach signal, and he said it was ok, but he may not have done anything to check, just said he did. That's where I stand. Any advise appreciated, as I have a trip in a couple of weeks, and although I have driven 2's long enough to drive by engine sound, it would be nice to listen to music on the trip too....smile. sounds like a botched wiring job, the cluster is the least to fail in any scenarios. does all the dash light go up?

The speedo died after I got the car stuck on a snow bank in PA last spring (the late snow), and had to rock the car back and forward to get it off (in addition to digging her out)....it then worked some, then wouldn't work, work some, then quit again...I checked to make sure the wiring wasn't pulled from the tranny, but the connection is still there.. |

It's not your cluster. The speed sender in the transmission is broken.

If someone can give me insight into how to test the tach circuitry, then I can avoid changing clusters... |

Sorry, I didn't see the post about the tach. That's what I get for reading the board at stoplights. Where are you located?

I'm not sure, but I need to do something. I tried to check on the tachometer today, but had limited time, so didn't go into the dash.
I'm thinking I'm going to need two fixes, one for the speedo and one for the tach...the speedo is probably the sending unit, but the tach is probably the cluster, or possibly a wiring fault leading to.... Ok, let's start with the speed sensor....I believe I found the part number, can anyone verify? 83181-12020 I have a 5sfe engine, with a S54 transaxle....is this the correct speed sensor number? Thanks, rvicke Hope you do have the cluster... |

id check the speedo cable before replacing anything else, that one tends to go first before anything else. as for the tach, thats connected to the ecu/crank sensor you can measure it w/ a multimeter to see any activity. find a purple wire in the cluster pigtail

So far the only one I've found that is 93+ is a turbo cluster.
