celica to mr2

First off Hello I am new to the forums.

heres the deal, I own a wrecked toyota celica gt-s (2.2L 5S-FE motor) 5 speed manual.

I totalled the celica on Wednesday this week. The motor and car still runs but the body is in bad shape (flipped it).

My mechanic said that he can get me a toyota mr2 for a decent price (just the body) and install the celica's motor into it for me. Do you think that would be a good plan?

The motor has all new parts on it and has a brand new exedy clutch with under 400 miles on it.

I was wondering if this would even work successfully. Motor and tranny. Also i'm selling celica parts if you need any or know anyone that needs any.

Thanks

yes, the motor will work, however, you will need to use all the accessories (brackets, waternecks, alternator, wiring ect) off of the mr2 motor, and the mr2 tranny.

Why swap a 5S anyway? I'd either find another celica to drop the motor OR just buy a running 5S MR2 for no more than $2500. Aint worth the trouble imo. Plus there's a percentage the body shop is going to put on that sourced shell. you're better off here or other MR2 boards to find an NA if that's what you want. I have to say, I love my trusty celica gt hatch. If I were to have a deuce, it would be with premium options.

see the thing was that my mechanic owns 3 mr2's and he does swaps all the time 3SGTE and 5SFE swaps. He said he can get me an mr2 body for about $100. Then he can do the whole swap for me, since my engine is still good. But If he could get another celica I guess that would be a good plan too.

1 quick question: If the motor from my celica is swapped into a mr2 would the mr2 still be RWD or would if be FWD?

You know that aphorism about "If it sounds too good to be true .... "? MR2 rolling chassis are worth quite a bit more than $100. This sounds sketchy as hell to me.

The MR2 is very different from a Celica and requires a different driving style. How did you flip the celica?

Not only does the MR2 stay rear wheel drive but the engine goes in the back too.

If the mechanic has 3 mr2s, i would assume he knows what he is doing before he offered to do the swap. If he can do it for a decent price, go for it
