Yes, you heard that right. I over-clocked my car... more specifically the 5sfe ECU. Tonight, (drum roll please) perhaps for the first time ever, a 5sfe with a stock computer bounced off it's new 7020rpm rev limiter.
And the cams took it right up there no problem. All that is left is to tune it a little richer with the SMT6 to compensate for the ECU now thinking the engine is not spinning as fast as it really is. That makes my new top speed of... hmmmm let's see... 140mph. |

Awesome! Out of curiosity, why 7020RPM of all numbers?

Ah! Makes sense. How aggressive are your cams, and this is on your 5sfte, right? Did the cams decrease your lowend torque much?

The cams are the Webcam 763 grind which are about the same as a HKS 264 in lift and duration. I don't have the turbo on right now but maybe in a month or two. Right now I am just seeing what this thing will do NA. Truthfully it is hard to say if I have lost much low end torque because the top end has so much more. I'm sure I lost some if for no other reason then the 5sfe ECU isn't tuned right for that much overlap but it still pulls pretty well even down low.

interesting.. a LOT of people were having problems throwing codes, or it would run for a bit and stall out. did you just straight up replace the crystal, or was there more involved?
either way, awesome work ![]() |

Soon... very soon.
Anyone want to see videos? I thought I would try to give you all a view of what I see when I drive my car. The AFRs are still pretty rich in the highest RPMs. This first one is a quick right corner then up to 60mph in 2nd: (11MB) http://warp.scl.utah.edu/mr2/Videos/...000rpms-2.mpeg This next one I cruise around for a little then get on the freeway (uphill ramp) going from almost stopped to a speed which I am not going to publish. You can do the math as to what 7000rpms in 3rd on a s54 will get you: (28MB) http://warp.scl.utah.edu/mr2/Videos/...000rpms-1.mpeg |

Maybe. It would depend on the ECU configuration and how many processors and clocks it has. I have a 5vz ECU in storage I could look at or if someone has a pic of the circuit board they could post. Basically if it has only one big chip and one crystal near it then it would probably work.

Awesome!
I've been playing around with my emanage on my rev 1 5S, so far just datalogging to get an idea of what the computer is doing. Couple questions about your setup: Rev 2 computer? Stock rods and bolts? |

Rev limit was something I was planning to look into after everything else was sorted out. Good to know there might be a fairly easy solution. Mind if I ask how you figured out base frequency? Was it printed on the crystal housing?
I've played with the data logging features for: Timing, airflow (map) and injector duty cycle. Still just figuring out the emanage so I will be comfortable tuning with it later. Will be working on the wbo2 datalog hack for it if I ever get more time. I've heard good things about the SMT's, seems to be working well for you. |

Dyno, then turbo, then dyno, then 5vz |
