ok so the windage tray is possibly what is hitting that part of the oil pan. if thats the case then i don't need it and should just unbolt it? will it cause any engine problems? kinda nerves me to take out something in there.

Janice, you want to leave the vin plate on there.

The 5sfe MR2 oil pan has a windage tray built into it.

I am not sure which car it came out of for sure. Really the only way to know that is to take the vin on the block to the dealer and ask. Does it matter which car it came out of?

Yes, you should be able to install the plate that's there with the MR2 oil pan. If you or someone you know, is doing the work yourselves be sure to grab the toyota gasket maker for it and have a quarter inch torque wrench on hand. It's crucial to get those bolts torqued down properly so as to avoid leaks.

Why in the hell would someone want to remove vin #s ???????????? I can only think of one reason but I don't want to jump to conclusions here.. and if the plate thing hasn't been figured out yet someone should pick mr2greasemonky's brain...ie the workshop group.

the engine has a windage pan and the oil pan has one too (build in). leave them both on there.

if its a camry motor it'll have a big balance shaft down there.

Janice, if you do decide to take it off can you show us a picture of what's there before you put the pan back on?

umm

why would everyone say to take off the old windtray and just use the new oil pan dont you think she should make sure that the oil pan she has is meant for the motor becuz obviously if the exhaust doesnt sit nice under it then it might just be the wrong dam pan for the engine shouldnt tell her to mess with the engine when your not positive what engine she has nor the pan it needs

Dear nerf herder, unless she has a turbo and/or a couple of cylinders she didn't mention AND posted in the wrong forum AND the shop she bought the motor from lied she has a good ol' 2.2L 4 cyl 5sfe. That being the case we know with a great deal of certainty what she's looking at and what she needs to do to resolve her issue.

Janice, if your engine does have a blance shaft in it then in order to fit the MR2 oil pan that will clear the exhaust you will have to delete it in order for the pan to fit. If the pan can fit on there without having to remove anything then you're golden.

gairloch is right, you are wrong. you can feel free to stop spamming the persons thread at any time.

just read your little picture caption thing. a 2 inch thick plate is a balance shaft assembly. you can remove it, but if you do you ABSOLUTELY MUST plug the oil passages or your engine will damn near instantly explode.

ok guys, i am going to try to find the vin number, that will help me determine what motor i have...

umm, i emailed some company that sells windage trays and they said that i only need it for heavy racing because "it does help to control your oil, oil pressure and increasing horsepower." direct quote...
i am a little nervous by what Tom said, lol, i have had two blown motors before and i really dont want my new one to go in 3 months, i do beat on my engine, i like to race, do you guys even have that tray? has i caused any problems?
dont know what to do... take it off? or leave it on?

thanks in advance

dont worry about the vin. if theres a big balance shaft assembly, its a camry motor. if theres not, it doesnt matter what its from, it'll work. if theres not a balance shaft it should have the factory trays inplace or bolt holes to put them back in place.

you dont need an aftermarket windage tray, you just need the stock one. the stock mr2 pan has it built in..

the mr2 pan will fit all the 5sfes except the camry engine, and the camry engine is the only one that has the big 2 inch thick "thing" on the bottom.. so it really narrows it down you've got yourself a camry engine with a balance shaft. unbolt the balance shaft and find appropriate pipe plugs at the hardware store and plug the oil feed holes. install the mr2 pan and you're good to go!
