New 93 NA. Flickering oil light, no speedo, no cruise

Hey, guys. I just picked up a 2nd gen '93 MR2! I AM SO EXCITED! The car is so much fun! I had it re-painted and was taking it back from the previous owner's place to mine, and noticed a few things that were wrong with it.

First, I noticed that the speedo didn't work. Nor did the cruise control. I remember when I test-drove it, the speedo was intermittent, moving up to the speed I was doing and down to 0 on bumps. That was a couple weeks ago. Now that I have gotten the car, the speedometer is at the bottom and remains at 0. Cruise control doesn't work either.

The second problem is the red oil light. I have read around enough to understand that that's the low oil pressure light. I don't think the guy who sold me this car would have neglected to tell me that it needed engine work. It flickers when I am at idle. Even when I'm driving and hold down the clutch.

Any help would be wonderful.

Thanks.

It sounds like the oil dummy light is doing it's job.

Before My Speedo cable broke, it was not registering the correct speed(to match rpm), then one day it and the odomoter quit working. I am not sure about a 93 MR2.

Try checking the electrical connection to the oil pressure sender. Hopefully it's just a bad wire or connector. It's on the front of the engine, driver's side of the exhaust manifold. The speedometer and cruise failing are probably related. The 93s have an electronic speedometer so you will also want to check the wiring and the sender on the top, rear of the transmission.

For the NA, the red oil light is also used for low oil warning as well as low oil pressure. Have you checked the oil level? And the speedometer and cruise control not working are related - its a safety feature.

What did you come up with here, Joel?
