I'm pretty sure we'll have to modify the headers to include a high flow cat or have a set custom made with a high flow cat. I've looked at pictures of the headers available and the 4-1 designed ones look like they'd be easy to add a cat to. Depending on how much you want to spend I think I may have found the perfect muffler to custom mount

It looks like we're both going to end up doing a top end rebuild. We just need to figure out how we're going to do the cams since you need hardwelds or regrinds. Hopefully I can replace my timing belt while I'm at it. Ben told me it's not too hard if you have the head off anyways. You should look into picking up a second cylinder head so you can do some porting prior to installation.

Check out the Evo X HKS muffler. It's piping goes straight into the muffler saving a lot of exhaust bends and consequently some weight as well

Here's a diagram of what it looks like.

The kicker is it costs around $650

Yeah...so in actuality we're looking at $700 + labor on custom fitting it

I'm gonna do some photochopping and see if I could make a cool looking center exhaust...I doubt it'll work out but it'd be the cheapest and most efficient.

one trip to the bar and your whole car is done for.. it doesnt make sense.

its something to very, very seriously consider. im getting pretty tired hearing california guys whine after they've been popped by the cops.

the cops are out there, looking for modified cars. if you have a bunch of flashy crap, you're going to get caught, sent to the bar, and either put everything back to stock or never drive the car on the road again. its the reality of living here.

toss some cams in, rework the stock b-pipe, and leave the rest as-is.. or swap motors.

Who said anything about flashy crap? I like the car just how it is and am planning on keeping it looking as close to stock while still looking good. For the number of slammed riced out honda's in LA and Orange County, I highly doubt that a modestly lowered toyota with 16in wheels, no body kit and a quite exhaust will get pulled over for being modified. Aside from a cone filter and the headers (which I'd probably powder coat to keep the bling factor down) everything will appear stock under the hood. If you don't give the cops a reason to pull you over they won't. I don't drive like a maniac and like my cars quiet and civilized.

I grew up in LA alone with the tuner car scene and know what I'm getting into whenever touching my cars. I know how to keep a car looking stock...and if I do get caught I promise I won't whine...

its fine, you can do whatever you want.. its your car afterall, but 10000000 people before you have thought the exact same thing and been popped by the cops.

if your car doesnt look completely bone stock, it gives the cops reason to pull you over.

When I said "a cool looking center exhaust" I meant one that looks like it belongs on the car. I don't want to do anything to the car unless it looks like it should be that way. I hate chrome and I like tasteful looking cars...If I wanted flashy I'd do candy paint and gold dayton rims on a caddy ...I'll put up pictures of my car as i work on it and you can tell me if it even looks modified...

Maybe cops are more anal up in the Bay Area, but down here if they pulled over every car that didn't look bone stock...they wouldn't even need cars

In your defense I have known people to get pulled over and ticketed for aftermarket stuff...but they were pulled over for their exhaust systems that were super loud (like track car loud).

Well Mark, there goes my idea for a +6 offset w/ 13" spinners and I guess I shouldn't get that 4 layer spoiler either. And yeah that center muffler should go too because everycop knows what is stock and what isn't no matter how tastefully done it is....

Bling Bling!!! They spinnin'

Yeah...don't cops have to learn that in police man school? I mean...everyone would know the stock exhaust on every car ever made...porches must be a b*tch with all their exhaust tip options.

Yeah...it could be expensive...but there might be an affordable way of doing it. If not I'll just go with a traditional mr2 setup. I'd love to get a tanabe touring muffler but they're not cheap and I'm looking for cost affective at this point. If I do the center exhaust it'll probably be magnaflow since I've heard they're not too loud...and a borla if I do a transverse mounted exhaust.

How does the dynaflow sound (loud, drone, high pitched, etc...)??? Are you still running a cat?

My Google Map

Does 3S-GE head bolt on to this 5S engine?
Wikipedia lists them as the same engine family,
and the next logical Q is could a 2.2 liter BEAMS engine be built?
Or use the 5S crank in the 3S block
The long forged rods I saw a pic of on the beams owners group website
look suspiciously like something I have seen before, and I would know
how to get them at a big discount I imagine. Using cheap(er) aftermarket
parts from different engines is common practice among performance shops.
They slap on a huge mark up and sell it as Toyota Hi-Po parts (or other brand).
I used to do it for american engines but tried to keep the prices reasonable.

Sorry for the late reply personally it sounds better than a fart canned but compared to the V8's i'm used to still sounds like a rice burner though it does have a nice tone till about 3K from there sounds like all 4 bangers to me i'll see if i can get a decent clip up later. Also there are no cats in the system and it is 2.5in piping. I'm using the header that MR2liter is or was selling.
