Its even harder in my case. Not only do I have no lift, the car is lowered at least a good 2 1/2''s. I actually have to drive it on some 2by4's just so its high enough to fit my very low profile floor jack under it. BTW my avatar pic and any other pics I have of my car on here are really out dated. I'll have to go snap a few quick ones tomorrow.

Yeah, can be frustrating. I replaced the clutch, flywheel, TO bearing, fuel filter, clutch line, suspension bushings (prothane), Koni yellow inserts, trd springs, kyb front strut mounts, TRD front sway bar, brake master cylinder rebuild, all four caliper rebuild, and changed the engine oil and filter.

Did all of this by myself with the car on jackstands in about 3 weeks just working on it for about 2 hours after work.

The repair manuals are a must for reference, you all would have known it screwed out on the rear caliper then. I spent about 2 hours a piece trying to get the snap ring back in place for the caliper rebuild on the rears, Huge PITA.

coming from a person that used to work for a European shop that specializes in Mercedes/BMW I would still say mr2 is harder to work on especially without the lift,it gets annoying working on top of the car,and having to raise the car and drop the motor for a rebuild is a headache,Mercedes tho you can just take the motor from the top,but i gotta say those Benz are annoying especially the 80's benz like the 560 sel,The bimmers too I hate those fragile ass plastic components and sensors that keeps braking, cracking, melting. and the radiator always go bad on the e39.

A PO lowered my car about 2 inches and I haven't put the front skirt back on it because otherwise I can't get up my driveway:The car also rides rock hard because of the high spring rates. A 1 inch kit would have been better.

Almost done with an engine swap here, good thing I read this before putting my brakes back together. But for working on the MR2 the bgb is a must!

I used to have no front lip a little while back, it scrapped all over the place like that. Now that its not my daily though it doesn't really matter. If I know its gonna scrap where I'm about to go I just don't take it. Lol

I was using the mkII as my daily until the freshly built motor took a dump. Valve stems I think so I have quickly thrown my mkI back together and am rolling on wheels that are all different colours My mkI scrapes everywhere as well but it is at stock height

MR2's aren't too bad... i just hate how i'm always tempted to use all the surrounding flat space as a small work bench.

even w/ some covers paint gets all messed up and dirty

so far i love working on mine..dont regret anything at all...ive already dropped the tranny twice, installed timing belt and water pump just to name a few.

The most frustrating thing i ever had to do wasnt on a mr2

i was helping a buddy replace his timing belt on a 420a on his eclipse and to get the passenger side motor mount bolts out to remove it you have to either drill holes in the frame or drop the motor.

and being on the side of a highway in dallas i have to cut some corners

Now it has a shiny hole in the frame.

sucked.

yea i broke two metal c clamps trying to get them back in lol. then went to the parts store and found out they spun in and had to spend around $20 on the tool :-( but i know now

you can disassemble and reassemble an entire mr2 with a 50 dollar tool kit and some jackstands and a jack. very few special tools needed, everything is accessible. if what you're trying to do seems unreasonably hard, 99% of the time theres an easier way that you're over looking.

ok first of all you gotta be smarter then the part. haha
2nd a nice set of ramps works AWSOME it makes everything 100% easier.(10'' makes a world of difference
3rd remove the side engine covers 2 screws and a lot more space.
a 24'' extension works great too.

hell yeah... I worked on my ex gf's mercedes...just to change the spark plugs was a pain. german cars have everything backwards, does that mean that everything is backwards in germany?

and about the mr2, haven't killed it yet, but i punched the garage wall while trying to remove the alternator. tiny, tiny space, and you have to remove the brackt just to get it out of the engine bay.

PITA...and the alternator turned out to be fine...now i'm continuing to troubleshoot
