mr2 deaths
to start, the mr2 is one of the most frustrating cars to work on anf was just wondering how many people have been pushed over the edge and unleashed anger upon the mr2. Similar to what i almost did to mine duing a simple brake pad change.

was it getting the rear caliper pistons back in that got you? Lol I didn't know they twisted in when I first did it, drove me insane. But as far as being pushed over, not yet, but VERY VERY close. Lol It wasn't as much the cars fault as much as it was my finacial situations when stuff would decide to break. If I'm making good money everything works great on it. The sec I'm unemployed all hell breaks loose. Lol

Yeah I just graduated last year, I hated my MR2 being my only car in high school. It was and still is, a project car. Not fun to have to rely on a project car everyday. And I agree with muffinman, clutch/timing belt swaps are so messed up. Lol Your really better off just dropping the whole motor and doing all your work away from the car for stuff like that. I had to change my water pump on my 5S when I first got the car, almost made me second guess keeping it then. Lol I was 15.

I love working on my MR2. Working on any car will piss you off at some point! I'm going on my 3rd engine and have done all the work myself, suspension and all.

I've done one motor swap, pulled the trans 3-4 times, did all my mods myself, and fixed the PO's messed up wiring from where he got an alarm put in. They butchered everything up. The worse part of it when your working over the quarter panel for a long time and go to move away and your knee's are like gone. Lol

I feel so lucky. I have access to the lifts at my dad's lot.
It made changing the fuel filter sooo easy. I can't imagine doing that without the lift. It just sucks when tey're all used. |

What bugs me is that I have to go around so many times. On a Front engine car, all I have to do is move a little bit if I want to get to something on the other side. But with MR2, the trunk is in the way, so I'm constantly switching my position. But the mechanics of the car are very easy to work with. I <3 my 5sfe.

it really not that bad to work on once you get used to it. i have done 3 engine swaps, pulled the tranny out 2 times, replaced the brakes about 3 times (and yes, the first time i didnt know the piston screwed in either. that drove me nuts) and a few other mis things but its all just a learning experience. you do it once and its frustrating as hell, but then the next time and the next time it just gets easier and easier. i mean without a lift or airtools by myself, i can pull a 5s out in about 3-4 hours. the first time i did it, it took me like 2 days. lol.

IT can be hard at times some things are a pain in the ass to get to but over all it isn't that bad. What helps me a little is that i have a good bit of background working on cars. My dad is a toyota mastertech and owns his own shop.
Its pretty great having a hundred grand worth of tools to work with. |

I love working on my car. It's a little frustrating being just an inch too short to really get into the engine bay, but I fix that by standing on a board.
