well really if anyone uses them and if shifting "changes" with a different knob..is the drop plate really needed? how much does the drop plate change the shift ratio. Is reverse hard to find on other peoples short shifters?

i used one in every car ive ever had except my current 2. (only because i havent bought one yet) shifting doesnt really change with the knob. the only thing that the knob changes is the way you grab it with your hand. the drop plate is needed to get the lower look and to change the pivot point of the shifter. this doesnt really change the shift ratio (to my knowledge. i may be wrong on this one) it only decreases the length from point a to point b in your shift "throw" allowing for a quicker shift. as far as reverse being hard to find, try putting it in 1st gear (without releasing the clutch), then putting it into reverse. sometimes the gears or the synchros can be just a little off and since 1st and reverse share gears its an easy way to get it together.

Aight so if I remove that drop plate it should bring it up a little and put my reverse in a position where it isnt almost hitting the plate. The knob I have is small..as compared to the 4 inch high oem. I am thinking of getting a slightly longer knob to give a little more length to the shaft.

I kind of want something in between shifting a bolt and shifting a bowling pin.

The shift linkage points on the shifter give it a shorter throw. Mabye ill just f with it tommorrow to get it to my liking.

Seems kinda close to me too, but i'm still using stock. Stock seems like a shorter shift than most stock shifters me. Of course the feel is alot different too being that the pivot mech is different in these than i'm used to.

93+ shifters are shaped different than 91/92 shifters. the best kit out there for the 91/92 by far is the twos are us kit with the 93+ shift lever. best $90 ive ever spent on a car.

Yup..i guess I should have read up a bit but I really hated the hugo shifter..lesson learned...MR2 Technical Knowledgebase - MK1/MK2 OEM & short shifter comparisons Image 5 is what I have. It works but Im guessin the drop plate is why I had trouble with 2nd and reverse..after a while I just figured out where I had to put my hand my wife has small hands and didnt have any issues..
