ok so everything is in working order and im going through the break in stage. i think my turbo seals are going bad or something because when im just cruising, not building boost, it leaves a white cloud of smoke behind me; especially when i stop at lights or parking.

burnin some oil from somewhere. Good to hear you figured it all out. What did you wind up doing for the oil feed/return?

i got a different connector that had 4an feed and 8an return barbs on it and tapped the 5sfe oil pan with an 8an barb and ran stainless braided lines.
im thinking the turbo seals are bad or i have too much oil pressure in the turbo. im not running an oil reducer like everyone else is, so im using that as a wild card. i have a friend who has a new ct26 and a gt35. he said he'll give me the ct26 if i want it, but the gt35 he would have to sell for $500. i'll keep you updated on whether or not i decide to change the turbo, but for now, im gonna take the turbo off of my car and check the seals. other than the burning oil......**** is rediculous.....im lovin every minute of every time i drive it. |

you should be running a 3an line, with a restrictor for the feed, and at least -10an for the return.
if you can get a an fitting locally, you can fill it with solder, and drill it out to make your own oil restrictor. |

4 is what I am using. I get a little blow by but nothing terrible. My turbo is a bit worn as well. What size hose are you using with the 8an? I think 10an is 3/4" so maybe 5/8"?

My mistake, Wikipedia says 10an is 5/8" and 8an is 1/2". That might be a little small for plenty of return flow. I am about 99% sure I have 3/4 radiator hose for my return.

wow awesome posts, not touching this project until after college,
had no idea there was that much technical/electric work involved in turbo ing a 5sfe would it be better to swap a 3sgte? or is this more fun in most opinion =D |

There is very little wiring depending on how you decide to go with engine managment. The basic setup only need the BTM wired in and the MAP switched. thats just about 2 hours and 5 wires.
If it is better to swap a 3sgte is up to you personaly. In the long run you will spend just a little more on a swap, but will have more horsepower and be done in a weekend. With the 5sfte you will have a ongoing project and much more knowledge about engines than when you started. Anyone can just swap, I chose to take the less traveled road and see if I could get good power and not blow up. You can. |

if i have an 8an already on the oil pan and the turbo, and a 4an on the turbo and the oil sending side, cant i just run a larger hose diameter for the return and a smaller for the feed and leave the current connections there?

I doubt it. The openings in the fittings on the hose are your bottle necks. You can close off a 4an easily enough, but opening up the 8an to an optimal size wont work; you would have to drill out to the minor diameter of the threads.
You might try and close off the feed a bit, and keep an eye on it to make sure the return is keeping up. That is if you are opposed to cutting off the 8an stuff. |

Are your hose ends pressed or screwed on? If you can pull off the fitting on the end of the hose, just close down the tip that goes into the hose. flatten it with a hammer and punch, or braze/soder and drill. That being said, I personaly am using 4an fittings and don't have enough blow by to worry about.
@Presure2: What is the approximate size recommended for the restriction on a ct26? .062", .125", .250"? IIRC I used 5/16" hose with the 4an fittings. The opening in the hose fitting (I used) was around 1/8". |

yeah its working out pretty good so far. just trying to work out some kinks in the setup so that i can make it a little more reliable than it is right now. the only problem im having is the oil lines. once i get them fixed im on my way to happy boosting.
