Weird noise from drivers rear wheel.

Hello all. I have a problem with my car. 1992 mr2 n/a. The sound from what I can tell is coming from the drivers side rear wheel. It increases when i speed up and decreases when I slow down. any idea what it could be?

could you describe the ruckus? (sorry had to)

could be a multitude of things - likely hub/brake/wheel/tire/axle related... anything from minor-dont-worry-about-it to omg-you're-going-to-die-if-you-drive-the-car

Describe the sound a little closer and it could help us. Also jack up that corner and inspect things like turn the wheel by hand and see if it feels smooth and quiet, see if there is play in any direction, etc - tell us the results of that too

I had a similar noise on mine but it was the wheel bearing - jack up that corner and see if you can get play in any direction on the wheel (if you can, its likely that) and see if it makes any noise when you turn the wheel by hand (if its a grinding noise, its likely that as well)

it was worth it to me to take it to a mechanic and make it his problem... at the time I didn't have the tools or time to fix it myself.

Wheel bearings tend to make that noise when cornering but not when driving straight.

if they get bad enough they'll make the noise constantly

its time to get under the car and carefully inspect stuff imo

If they're that bad you've got a whole set of other problems because of it. The heat generated by the bad bearing can cause it to sieze up and end up ruining the whole bearing carrier (ask me - been there, done that!)

+1 on having a look see

if its your axle replace it. lol... Have you done any work recently to the car? my axle was womping and it turned out I didn't tighten it all the way. HAHAHAHA.... stupid me. But yeah, to tell if its the axle, you'll feel a loss in performance. Like speed, gas mileage. Just jack the car up high and look for torn boots. Good luck and have fun!
