Best clutch for a stock 5S-FE?
I will need a new clutch soon, and I am just wondering what kinds of experiences people have had with various clutches.
I'd like to know what you paid and where you got it/who you got it through. Obviously, streetability/engagement harshness are a factor, but I'm a young kid. I'm more than willing to have a chattering clutch with better performance, rather than a smooth engaging clutch that slips a little bit more. |

well.. this year i have gone through 3 clutch all because of crazy **** that happens with each one.
i have a stage 3 pressure plate and a stage 4 4puck unsprung act disk on my car now with a Toyota throw out and i think it doesn't get better then that. even though some times it make a funny noise lol my 1st clutch was exedy oem 140 bucks i this is awesome and i would buy from again! reason it got replaced was because the flywheel bolts broke on me and i had to replace the assembly. 2nd clutch was the F1 stage 3 from grip force. 160bucks 2 months! the springs fell out of the clutch and i didn't even get to punch the gas for 500 miles. told them. they said they couldn't do jack about it but they would give me another but unsprung for the same price. the setup i have nope chatters when warm but only 1st and reverse. if your good enough you can walk it with no chatter. other then that its great and grips awesome! just a lil more expensive. just the disk was 120, and the pressure plate was about 2 something |

What kinds of mods do you have on your car, also?
EDIT: I looked on the ACT site, and they sell ZERO pressure plates for a 5S-FE. And only race disks, no street disks. I think I could do the race disc, but obviously with no pressure place there are problems. |

You might want to go with an unsprung ACT or something since chatter is not so much an issue. With repeated hard launches springs have a tendency to go ping sometimes, I had one do it and that was the end of that day....and clutch.

Well I'm on the ACT site right now and they show ZERO pressure plates for a 5S-FE. Only a few discs, a bearing, and an alignment tool.
I'm going on the assumption that their site will have relatively up to date info. @328FTW - I was hoping to go unsprung, but the only ones I've found are a clutchmasters unsprung ceramic that claims 200 to 400% increased holding capacity, for $340. Which leads me to believe it will have a ridiculously stiff pedal. All the other clutch companies I can think of only have an OEM organic sprung replacement kit. |

Why would you want a higher pressure clutch for a 5sfe? In my opinion the clutch should always be the weakest part of the driveline. You definitely want the clutch to slip before you blow out the differential. Personally I wouldn't go any further than the Exedy.

@ Gairloch - I'm not trying to get a full blown race clutch or anything, but I don't care if it is stiffer than stock is all I'm saying. I am planning on some mild upgrades soon, but I doubt I'll be turbo-ing it. If I want big power I'll swap in a 2GR.
![]() @fvillota - I didn't mean to sound accusatory, I apologize. Yeah, I just remembered that a few months back they used to have a pressure plate for it too. But not anymore... ![]() |

I'd stick with the exedy in that case. Until you do something like add FI to the motor you won't need more than stock clamping force.

That's what I planning.
Damn. Seems like everybody hates the 5S, there is so little selection for it. |

It sucks, but it's the truth. No normal 4 cylinder will ever have really high HP/torque, without going FI.
