Bosal exhaust for 5-SFE?

I've got a 91 NA 5-SFE. Looking for a replacement exhaust. Nothing fancy, something similar to the stock, only a little lighter and better flowing. I've seen a couple places selling a Bosal part 278-430 as a direct replacement.

A URL to a photo of the exhaust is below.

Anyone have any experience with this Bosal exhaust (build quality, sound, etc).

Thanks,

I'm using one on my mk1. Stock muffler. Seems ok. It's only been a year since I put it on. No rust and everything sounds normal. It sounds the same as stock. The mk2 one shouldnt sound any different that your stock muffler. Bosal makes direct replacements that are built to be the same thing as what was stock. Hope that helps you some.

Thanks for your inputs. I had another NA MR2 previously which I had made a pretty nice sounding exhaust using mandrel bent tubing and a Magnaflow muffler for $130. But I supported the muffler from hangers instead of rigidly mounting the muffler to the body (like the stock exhaust). Within 10,000 miles I had broken 2 studs back at the exhaust manifold. I can't say if it was the muffler mounting or 3 seasons of auto-crossing that broke the studs, but I think there's a reason for the factory Toyota muffler mounting.

Anyone else have any experience with this Bosal muffler?

Thanks,

yes. it is. many people like the stock look but want a little deeper tone in the NA and it is less restricitive . the turbo muffler will fit as long as you have an adapter/custom made to fit.

Are most of the turbo mufflers to be had from scrapped cars / trading up or is there a manufacturer out there that is making OEM replacements of the turbo version? Any specs on the "custom" mounts that have to be made, or is there a kit?

There's a BOSAL factory not 15 miles away from me It's not something I would put on as an upgrade. If you're looking for a cheap replacement part and don't expect quality - BOSAL

I got bosal before its as quiet as the oem, flow is probably the same but oem is better in quality,My bosal lasted me about 2 years and the welds were breaking apart.Good thing its was a present and I didn't pay for it hehehe.

Try a custom 2-1/4 pipe with magnaflow from a muffler shop It sounds really nice with a Low deep sound.

i am almost certain that's what it is for. you can also go to a muffler shop which will probably make something very similar if you asked them too
