help! 1997 3s-ge engine into a 3s-ge 91 import

hi new to this so here goes i have fitted a 97 3s-ge engine into a 91 import
mr2.i bought a ecu from a 96 rev 4 ive had lots of trouble with getting it to run i think it could do with the wiring loom for the 97 car, as the one on the engine is for the 97.i have a spark after lots of messing around,and it will start but wont run i think it only starts on the cold start injector.i dont know if the injectors are letting in fuel has anybody got a wiring diagram for a 97

so what do you have exactly? look like you have wiring harness but no body harness correct? and the car is a 91 3sge? check to see if everything is pluged up right. then check fuses, relays, grounds. did you get an engine or clip?

hi mate thanks for the interest in this it is driving me mad i have tried everthing! the car is a g reg 1990/91 and the engine is out of a 1997 so i was told, you are right i have the harness for the engine only not for the car the engine i got off ebay, it was surposed to come with the ECU but it did not so i got one from ebay with the coil and igniter, and it is off a 1996 mr2 i now think this may be the problem? all the plugs are plugged in all the fuses are fine and so are the relays, it seems to only run on the cold start it does not seem to get fuel through the injectors.do you know of anywhere i can get a wiring diagram for a 97 3s-ge, any advice will be grateful thanks again dan

I think I might have something. I have a 91 mr2 5sfe with a jdm gen 3 3sge swap I did myself. it runs with only a cel problem. here are some links

check engine light. HEY! by any chance do you have the check engine light codes for the 3sge's? pass them this way if you do. the check engine light code is 42 for speedo sensor.

sorry mate i do not have the engine codes i have seen them some where i have read so much information i cant remember where they are i will look again

search on here Toyota Owners Club - Toyota Forum or GT4OC this was for the celica gt4 3s gte engine

the car is going no where fast!!! the engine managment ligth is not comeing on i cheked the bulb it is fine it is a wiring prob i think or the ECU is wrong need wiring diergrams for 1997 car. try the forum for engine cods they are there some where.

You might want to check the countries that sold the 3SGE's.
Japan
Australia , none here ive checked
England. Bought on from there e-bay but didnt have all the models.
Unfortunately i did locate a dozen manuals that included every MR2 made , including the BEAMS but that group buy has long since gone
Sorry but give England a go.
BTW your engine is a series 2, 93-97 .

any update on your swap dude? I got mines running good now. turns out its only a speed sensor signal. nothing big.

check the fuse box.. you have to wire up some wires up in the fuse box...
