Average RPM's

What's the average RPM's in 5th gear for an n/a. I'm getting a little over 3k in 5th. I just got my transmission swapped so I was wondering what the average is. THANKS!

IIRC, my NA ran a hair over 3K at 65 mph. If ever a car needed a sixth gear, this is it!

you turn some revs with these cars on the highway, they're built for it though and still get pretty decent mileage

My 87 gets worse gas mileage on the highway then it does around town. I usually run between 3000 rpms and 4000. Lowest I've gotten was 28 mpg. I love my 4 banger.

Its supposed to be that way. Most manufactures gear the trans to but the engine in and an area of peak efficiency (i.e. around peak torque) while cruising at hwy way speeds.

Running down the hwy at a lower RPM will most of the time end up getting you worse fuel milage cause you will be loading the engine heavier due to it being outside of its peak efficiency range.
