Ya know, that's a good question. I knocked that prototype out in just a few minutes, I don't recall it covering up the oil filter, but the photos don't show easy access to it either. ![]() I'll verify it before I end up with 20 shields that I refuse to sell. ![]() Honestly, it's hard to beat the stock heat shield. It's a really nice stamped, double layer piece. However, a new one isn't cheap and a good majority of the ones out there now are cracked and in the process of failing. -B Last edited by Brad Bedell; 05-16-2006 at 10:16 PM. |

I do like my stock one but as you said, for those with failing / crappy stock heat shields this may be a good alternative. What's the price and weight?

I have no clue, the mockup was built with really thin material... Probalby similar to weight as stock, as it'll be built out of 18 gauge steel and ceramic coated. -B |

I'm very interested in this, Brad. I have three 5sfe heat shields and they all look like refried crap.

Good point, totally forgot about that. How bout if the same holes that are used to mount the header are used somehow? That would help us out with emmission inspections.

Besides making it so you can habitably stick your head into and over the engine bay after/while the motor is running, what is the point of a heat shield?

keeps heat away from the intake tract (even though its fairly well routed to the vent stock).. the factory manifold also has an oil filter heat shield, which really is the more important one.
