You don't see many stock 3sgte's pumping 400 horse without some work. Further, the goal of a turbo 5sfe is rarely going to be to pump out huge numbers, but more to see what is possible. This is where the curiosity and the mechanical challenge come in.

The truth is if I wanted this build to see 200-400 hp, there is no way I would do a 3sgte swap no matter what. I would just take the time to do my research and do a V6 swap. In fact, that is planned for this winter, after I finish planning out my budget and where I will have room to do it.

I apologize to those people who did stay on topic, and did offer good information. To those who just wanted to start a good old engine bash, go back to the turbo forum and make a new thread all about how you hate the 5sfe.
You might be able to make it into a 2.2 stroker, not really sure, never looked into them.

Well it's true. I mean... for proving a point against mine, Weasy can go straight to hell.

Oh, so the emo/goth kid is all high and mightly all of a sudden? holy crap! As for turboing a 5s, I've got a friend of a friend who spent huge amounts doing research on the setup and went all out, with TMIC, etc etc and essentially fully tuned it didn't pull nearly as strongly as a stock 3s. Granted, that's not what you're asking but the 5s turbo is rarely done for a pretty consistent reason? It's a pita to get running right, and for the money was not a highly feasibly option when I researched it.

While the output of a 5sfe will always be a bit limited, I take stories of people trying to build things with a grain of salt. Too many people have no idea what they are doing other then someone told them to do it. I would compare it to honda people, they go out and buy a new exhaust because the site said it gave them +5 HP and it is loud. Now, that is +5 HP with other mods, and at the very top end, not noticing that it throws the back pressure off and they actually run a slower 1/4 mile time in their little DX. It's all a matter of balance, you can never get more power out without putting more energy in, or reducing the amount of waisted energy.

Just for the record, this engine build was just a test to see what I can get out of the 5sfe since I will have a spare engine anyway. My plans are for a V6 in the actual car, and I think that may stay as an NA build.

i really dont think people will get it...

I wanted more power out of a 4runner 3.0L 3vz-e (not FE)....yes i could "just drop in a 5vz-fe and s/c it"...but instead i have put cams in it and am about to get a nice exhaust setup + smt6 to tune the timing a bit just to get a bit more power out of it.

becuase i want a BIT more power out of it...something so i dont have to watch the speedo drop as i climb small hills that my tacoma can do at idle.

He wants a bit more guts to see what it can do thats good...the 5s is fine, i dtove a 5s turbo before and its got quite a bit of balls vs N/A.

Anyway...yea...

And really, you don't need any more than like 220-240whp for every day driving. Seriously.
