Leaking Fuel *Solved*
I am leaking alot of fuel out of what looks like my fuel rail right behind cylinder #4. The engine i have is from a 97 celica. I was not able to fit the injectors from the mr2 so i used the ones from the celica. But i used the mr2 fuel rail. do i just have a leaky gasket or o-ring? I didnt replace the o-rings when i did the swap. The ones on the celica looked fine. The car runs great. It idles a little high (1800) but i still havent timed it yet.
Any ideas would be great. Last edited by butangviber; 08-24-2006 at 09:54 PM. |

I would start troubleshooting the problem by first checking to see if the Celica injectors are 100% compatible with the MR2 fuel rail (I believe they are, but I couldn't tell you for sure).
Once you are sure they are compatible, make sure to replace all old gaskets/o-rings for the injectors/fuel rail with new ones and ensure everything is properly installed and tighted (could be as simple as that...actually for me it was). If that doesn't work.....then go kick a tree to relieve your frustration and post how you broke your toe doing so later....(oops guess that's just me ) |

DId you soak the o-rings in canola oil or something to that extent before craming it in there? If not then you prob tore a o-ring gasket (i have odne that ALOT) they are a pain.
Just remove the manifold to get to that rail and fix the o-ring then DONT put the manifold back on till you fire up the fuel pump and see if its leaking again...i learned that from my multiple o-ring fights...

oh you can soak them in oil? i didnt try that. I did replace all of the o-rings and other rubber items on the injectors today. I cleaned the fuel rail inside and out, cleaned out the ports where the injectors go and then reassembled the whole thing. I turned on the the key to the on position and didnt hear the fuel pump running. I looked at all of the injectors to see if any were leaking fuel. Nothing. So i started up the car. It ran great -timing. Then port #1 started to leak.
I thought it was maybe because i was using the stand offs from the Celica motor, but when i compared the stand offs to the ones from the MR2, the MR2s were taller. So the injectors are in there. Maybe your right Weasy2K, maybe its the o-ring in the motor. I did put motor oil on the o-rings before installing them so i am not really sure. |

I prefer Canola oil becuase it helps expand the o-ring...i dunno the tech behind that but thats what im told by lots of people (one being the guys at RC Engineering

Problem solved. I pulled the leaky injector and found that the o-ring was messed up. i replaced it and greased it up and stuck it back in. Now there is no leak! Thanks for all of the input and help guys.
