Questions about clutch....
Hi guys, I need a little help and advice.
1. What do you think of this: Fidanza lightweight flywheel + Exedy Clutch kit(oem)? 2. Besides the clutch kit, what other tranny parts are recommended to replace at the same time? 3. I want to replace it myself to save cost. Are there any write-ups that I can read as references? Thank You!! |

I like piece of mind so I like to replace my tranny seals every time I do the clutch.
Also if youll be in there, it MIGHT be a good idea to replace the rear main seal. Also depending on how many miles is on em, maybe also for piece of mind replace those flywheel bolts. I will be doing the same thing soon, so when you do yours, If you do yours before I do mine, please post some "should knows" or finer points or notes or tricks you learn along the way to make it easier. One thing I can tell you is use Locktite on your flywheel to crank bolts, and also use locktite on the tranny to block bolts. Ill post mine if I do mine before you do yours. |

so basically the seals and tighten the bolts w/ Locktite. What about master and slave cylinder? Should I replace them too?
I will say my clutch still has a few thousands to go. I will post mine if I do it. btw, it has 116k miles. |

If you got the money Id replace the slave for sure. Since its a moving part, it gets ALOT more stress on it than the master cylinder. MC is a ***** to replace compared to the slave. Slave is easy. Its right there on the tranny, it must be disconnected to even get the tranny off, and its easy to bleed.
They say if your clutch engages properly and doesnt exhibit the symptoms of needing to be bled, your slave and master are prolly ok. And even if the slave dies later on, its not that bad to replace. |

dont replace the slave. the work involved is almost completely unrelated to a clutch job. replace your slave cylinder when the slave cylinder goes bad.
id replace your rear main for sure, regardless of miles (its cheap) and your axle seals. im running a fidanza and exedy.. not too impressed with the fidanza, but the exedy is fine and holds my near constant abuse people who drive my car dont even notice it has a lightweight flywheel, even other mk2 na owners! |
