swapping
Please dont bash me for asking this, and i know u guys covered it, but i dont understand the forums because so many other people post un related info or get side track. So i want a gen 2 3sge for my 91 N/A. Is it as simple as swapping motors and wiring harness(also ECU). or do i need to do some custom work. Thank you

As long as you get the whole rear clip, you'll be set. If you only pick up the motor, you'll be missing a lot of necessary componets.

You can't store the rear clip but you can store the engine? There's not that much of a size difference.
Why not buy the rear clip, pull the engine and misc parts out of it real quick, and dump the rest? |

Aside from the motor, you'll need the wiring harness and ecu. Thats about it if you aren't trying to use a celica 3sge.
For the exhaust, its good if you can grab the manifold and bpipe. If you can't get the Bpipe, you can use any 5sfe aftermarket header and pipe. You could technically use stock 5sfe exhaust. It will physically bolt up, but I'd have no idea what kind of drag it would be on performance. The best thing to do is to try and find a conversion set. They cost around $800-$1000, and have just about everything that you need. There is absolutely no reason to buy a clip. |

Aren't the engine mounts different?

I used my 5sfe engine mount with my celica 2nd gen 3sge. I reused my 5sfe tranny, so there was no difference in the 3 other mounts (not that there would have been if i'd used any S series tranny). There are some small details to tend to, especially if you use a celica motor, but once you have an mr2 3sge harness and 3sge ecu, this swap is super simple. About the only thing that might give some people trouble is swapping the 10pin ecu to bodyharness plug to the 3sge 22pin plug (which you can grab off of a camry v6 or previa). The swap sets you can get for $800-$1000 look pretty complete. I've seen clips listed for $2000+. This is a swap where getting a clip is absolutely not necessary. |
