That is the plan!

The fastest car I've ever driven was a 300zx twin turbo, but not at the track (a testdrive w/o a salesman, heheh).

I ran a 75 hp Nitrous Express kit (wet kit) on my very first MR2 nearly 10 years ago. No problems other than the clutch.

IMHO, nos should be used to help spool a turbo bigger than my head to help eliminate turbo lag, course they are 1000+hp.

I don't think Nitrous is overrated. It sounds like it's underrated if no one is using it.

Find another mod that guarantees 50hp for $500. Once again, I was just trying to see if there was a big following for it in the MR2 universe. Sounds like there isn't.

An ebay turbo can do that. But on a more serious note don't run more than a 50 shot unless you have a backup engine. NOS corrodes everything it touches. I have seen the after effects of a 75 shot on a stock SE-R and that wasn't pretty.

how about 70hp for $30? a MBC every 1 psi you add, add's 10hp. just be careful, that would suck if you did one run and your out a motor for 1 more second less on your quarter mile time.

someone correct me if im wrong, with a honda motor that's running high compression nos would mostlikely pop the motor more so that a larger motor with less compression?

you should head out to a different kind of track, you'll have alot of fun with just the stock 5SFE there

Summit Point (road course out in WV) is probably pretty close to ya, right?

You're right. I've done very little autox. Summit Point is about 3 hours from Morgantown, and so it Cleveland and Columbus (I believe there are other autox there).

Actually, every back road in WV is an autox track, heheh. I do understand the oversteer of the MR2, and I'm really glad I got one with ABS when I took a 90 degree turn downhill at 30mph.

I'll look into it.

BTW - Go Clemson on 12/31!!

Nitrous is regarded as dangerous because people half-ass it all the time. It's not actually dangerous when properly done.

Nitrous changes the optimal AFR and spark timing of the motor, much as turbos do. Don't bump the injector pressure, some injectors can't handle that. Optimal spark timing with nitrous is lower than without, all else equal. This is why simply injecting nitrous and fuel pops some motors. Optimal AFR is simply a thermal control mechanism, it varies motor to motor, use to use.

Some motors "take" nitrous better because they came from the factory with a more conservative mapping with more room between MBT and the knock threashold.

The absolute best, most reliable way to do this is to size some huge injectors, setup port injection, let an EMS handle the nitrous fuel and spark, then have a competent tuner setup the whole thing. The least reliable way would be to simply inject enough nitrous to blow the motor on a hot day, then hope for the best.

I prefer a turbo as well. It's always there, no screwing around with a bottle that can literally blow up in an accident, and it's more usable for longer periods of time.

To give you an idea of the chemistry of this, as oxygen concentration goes up, so does the "explosiveness" (kinetics) of the combustion. Nitrous increases this oxygen concentration. An analogy can be a match. Burn it in air (~20% O2 by partial pressure, IIRC) and it will burn slowly and go out. Burn it in a cloud of 100% O2 and it will almost explode.

I think you should do some small upgrades first. I used to have an NA MR2, I know there is some stuff out there for it. Just do the simple stuff like header, exhaust, and intake. If you decide to do the Nitrous, do small shots. I had thought about doing that with my NA but I never did, I just think nitrous is almost a sudden shock to the system, IMO. You can also try to shed some weight off the car that will help.
