Shift knob?

How do i change my shift knob, i have a razo one that i want to change it to but when i try n twist the stock knob off it wont come off, some square thing under the shift boot is also twistin so it twists the shift boot when i twist the knob. I have a 91 rhd mr2 from japan. This is my first toyota as i drive my dad's civic until i get it inspected, registered n insured.

Can you pull the boot up to see what is going on? If theres something there just grab it with a vise grip.

You have to seperate the boot from the shift knob. There are actually clips that attatch to the shift know. That is if it's a '91-'92 shift knob.

unclip the boot surround by lifting where the leather seems to fold under, then twist the knob off, the whole plastic retainer will turn with it, then you flip it over and see the clip/ring and just take it off, itl make sense when you dfo it

The know is likely held to the lever with a set screw, not screwed on. It's often a little allen key you need to loosen. Pull the boot out of the console and up, you may see it under there after pulling the ring which is holding the boot up down.
