I'm sure everyone's going to say you shouldn't be speeding dangerously on public roads and save the high speed antics for the track etc...
But I'm sure everyone's also guilty of doing the same at least once. But yeah, you're not even 18 yet...slow it down. I know if you were in NY with that, with insurance being high as it is already (if under your name, upwards of $4000 a year at your age....shit, my age!), you can forget about it. |

im assuming youre 16 by the "1990" in your name. You dont need to be doing this, im 16 and no way would i ever imagine doing that, if i want to keep my mr2 and my life, i stay away from dumb stuff like that. I dont think you should be putting a new motor in there as it will only be faster and if you cant control yourself you WILL end up in an accident

Cool. Hopefully it takes you 10 years to finish the swap.

Yes by that time maybe you will be mature enough to own the car. Doing 103mph at 16 years old is not cool dude. If you want to earn respect you need to start by respecting your car and others on the road.

uhh ok. there was no one on the road. thats the only reason the cop didnt arrest me. and i didnt think i was going that fast. my speedometer broke a few months ago. i figured i was goin like 85 mabye 90 at the most. plus i barely ever go that fast. it jus figures that one of the few times i do i get cought. and another thing i dont really care if people online have respect for me or not. i dont know what kind of people yall are in real life and dont really care. all i wanted to know was info on swaping engines.

I guess it's a good thing I'm not a cop. Grown ups going fast is one thing, kids at the age of 16 doing 103 (or 85) is another. You are too young to drive past the speed limit. It's years of experience and knowing exactly what can go wrong in a car that determines your ability to handle speed, otherwise you are putting people at risk, at the least yourself.
And if you don't want our respect you should probably not ask us to waste our time giving advice. |

okok. that sounds resonable i guess. but since everyone in here is goin off because someone they dont even know did one stupid thing are u tellin me that u never drove like that when u were my age? and for another thing ur not my ******* mother or a person of authority to me so. why dont u go chase down all the 100000s of teenagers speeding at this moment and give them your little speech. cuz ive done learned my lesson and ive done heard this from the judge my parrents and just about every other adult in my life. even though im still feeling the reprocutions from it iv put it behind me. shit happends and people make mistakes. its part of life. and bitchin about other peoples mistakes to them wont change what happend. so, unless ur gonna at least half ass answer the question that i asked go find someone else to lecture.

And you say you want to swap the engine and tranny. Hell if i had the money and chance to do so, personally, i don't really care about the hp that much. ok ok well i do, but i'm not trying to get the max hp. Its just a perk. I just love the sound of a turbo spooling up and the BOV. I love the sound of the engine reving. But with that turbo system, comes a jump in horse power, its human nature to test the limits. Thats probably what you did when you hit 103, ----again, i don't know the story. But i'm just saying, if you can't drive responsibly with a stock MR2, what makes you think you won't test the limits with a turbo?.. |

dude i completely understand everything u said. i know im young and naive but that what i want to do and what im going to do. and yes i know how a car works. a few months ago i got a new 350 for my chevy and did the swap pretty much by myself. sure, this is my first car(not a truck) that ive bought,(actually mine, titles in my name and everything) but im sure from my past expirences i could handle this and if i cant i have plenty of friends to help me. and like i said before i know going that fast is stupid. thats why i barely ever go that fast. ive probly only had my car above 90 about 3 times and ive had it for 9 months. i dont even want a high top speed. i care more about 1/4 times and believe me, my car kinda sucks. lol it runs like 16s and even sadder my chevy runs about the same(just uses waaay too much gas) thats what i want out of a car. im at my local track at least once a week and ive been around this kind of stuff all my life. ill also be able to find time to fit in working on it ever now and then. i got like a year and a month till i turn 18 so theres no rush. and your right, good things do come to those who wait but i also believe that good things come to those who work there ass off and earn it. and right now between 2 jobs(i work 1 weeknights and 1 weekends) and all As and Bs in advanced placement classes, im working my ass off and this is what i want to do.

If anything, you should use that money to restore the MR2 (depending on the condition, but still) That car WILL be a classic. IMO How many miles are on it? |

thats the thing. its got like 190000 and the engine and tranny arent doin too well. trannys startin to slip, and engine is leakin oil from like 3 spots and and somethins clicking(mabye a lifter or sumthin). its got other probs too. i just figured since i would have to pull engine and tranny eventually might as well just buy a new one. i got a really good deal and payed like 800 for it(got it from my neighbors daughter) and have put a little over a grand in it so far(just little stuff, new radio, and whatnot). so yea, i cant drive it for a little over a year and since i make enough money why not do all that? ill prob end up sellin it or sumthin anyways, lol.
