Unhappy Alternator/Battery/Charging problem !

Hello, looking for some help here .
I have been having a problem with my battery in my two. The car starts but after a little drive (10-15 min) the battery dies!. I have replaced the alternater but still the same problem.
I checked all the fuses and replaced the ac and ECU IG but the fuse for ECU IG keeps blowing each time I start the car.
Could the ac fuse be alternater charging ?? as i dont have air con.

, does anybody else know what the problem may be. When I was replacing the Alternator, I noticed the harness that has the positive terminal for the alternator has another plug with it further back which was unplugged, I'm not sure what that was for as I have connected the Positive and the other plug for the alternator and this one I don't know where it goes.

Please help me, I need my car back

Would probably need a picture of it, I can't think of what the plug would be, maybe a ground wire? You should check all your grounds, check your battery ground and make sure it's getting good contact. How old is the battery itself?

is it the original engine? maybe someone swapped in a newer engine with the newer harness or hacked up your original harness. i dont know, but it something to think about.

how long have you had this car?

has it always done this or is this something that just started happening?

i think the 93+ cars have different alternator plugs, maybe you have mismatched parts...

not sure, just trying to help out

Hard to tell by those pictures, are those bare wires hanging out of the plug? Also you have a plug and a ground hooked to your alternator, yes?

the three wires hanging out the plug are (three of the four) wires that are coming from a metal plug thing (maybe the O2 sensor ?) from the exhaust pipe.
Yes, the alternator has the plug and ground wire connected.
I have just bought the car, the last owner doesn't know anything about the car.

i think you have to determine what year harnes you got to make sure you are getting the right year alt.

then have one of these wiring gurus go thru pin outs and color designation for al the wires to make sure everything is going to the right place.

if all else fails you will have to find an internally regulated alternator that fits the 3s 5s brackets with the right size pulley and bypass the factory wiring. i do this with my old corollas all the time, just run a fat wire from the main B+ post on the back of the alt to the starter wire on the starter, this keep you from having to run a wire all the way to the front of the car to the battery, then you will just need a field/ignition positive which lets the regulator start monitoring the voltage and turn on and of all by itself as it needs to charge and cycle, and you can also run another wire to the alt which would be for your dummy light.

i would only do this as a last resort on a MR2, but its usually one of the first things i do to my corollas since the corollas have really old wiring and crap externally regulated alts.

good luck bro

Thanks mate, it's sounds a bit complicated lol. The engine is a 3S-GE (93) and the alternator that has been replaced is the exact same as the one that is on the car and I have connected the connector and the ground to the alternator, surely the alternator can't have two conectors connected to it, which leaves this one, that I dont know what the hell it's for. I'm going to set this car on fire

Just checked, The ECU-IGN, Fuse in the rear engine fuse box blows, this is when I turn the key to the on position before I start it. Just thought I would mention this, if it makes any difference ?

Although wiring diagram is for the 3S-GTE not the 3S-GE, it looks similar:

i had a friend who also had an mr2 who kept popping fuses, make a long story short after checking everything by the book one at a time it was the O2 sensor that had a bad short in it and it would blow the fuse.

really wierd and rare situation but it did happen.

good luck
