5S no oil squirters?
I have an engine with a 5S block 3S head, eagle h-beam rods, CP pistons. However, my 5S block has no oil squirters. How is the wrist pin lubricated? The eagle rods do not appear to have any kind of oil passages on the small end. I know some oil splashes up under there, but i'm not sure it's enough. How are the stock 5S wrist pins lubricated?
Thanks... |

Through crank splash and probably through the oil along the cylinder walls.
Honestly, I'd be more worried about the crank bearings, because when I took my 5SFE apart after it god rod knock the wristpins all looked brand new. However it works, it does! |

Are you planning to hook this up to a wrecking ball and destroying sky-scrapers with it?

Why are you going to use 2 honda radiators? Even the N/A cooling system can handle more than the turbo system needs. Are you building a show car or a HP monster? Good luck...but please....paint it a normal color and ditch the interior.

full photo build log here, including what the godawful thing looked like from the start:
http://www.astrocore.com/mr2/ I am using the 2 honda radiators with fans under the trunk as heat exchangers for my water-to-air intercooler system. I have a 2000hp drag intercooler that needs a lot of HE surface area to cool. I didn't want to stick it up front in front of the regular radiator as that would screw up airflow and my engine cooling, and under the trunk mounted at an angle to the incident wind is the only place I could fit them - the two of them together plus the fans are pretty huge. |

What about that interior?
It's your car, and the motor is insane, but I don't think that interior really goes along with the car. Kinda looks like a pimp mobile. But hey, if you're a pimp then there you go! What kind of pimp wouldn't want a 850 WHP pimp mobile? ![]() |

The small ends must have a hole to lubricate the pin? Mine did. Check again because there is just no way an oil squirter is going to lubricate the wrist pin.

reflexx, I gotta hand it to you, the build is coming along nicely. But what the hell is up with the craptastic pinstriping & graphics? If you're going to do it, do it right, if not then leave the car one solid color. That's a shame man, fix it!

5s block has no oil quirters. Block sqirters on the 3s are designed to cool the pistons. Eagle rods have oil holes for the wrist pin on each side of the small end at about 8 and 4 o'clock as opposed to the stock rod which has one oil hole at the very top (12 o'clock) of the small end.
Stock 5s rods have oil squirt holes on the thrust wall side of the rod on the big end. Eagles have no oil squirt hole for the cylinder wall on the big end. Pressure lubrication is to the mains, the rod journals, the cam (and the turbo on 3sgte). Everything else is splash. Last edited by wesnemo; 02-12-2007 at 09:04 PM.. Reason: forgot the turbo |
