Unhappy bad MPG

93 NA - 5S-FE
MPG is about 18 mile per gallon.
Is it OK? Or What can I do to upgrade my MPG?
I changed sparkflugs and flug cables.

cap and rotor is not a bad idea. 18 mpg city is pretty reasonable, people claim to get 30+ but im not buyin it, i never get more than about 21 all city

I was getting 28 mpg in town before I roasted a rod bearing. Best I ever got was 34 mpg on a road trip.

I would start with a cap and rotor. Something else you can do that might help is run a bottle of ChevronTechron Fuel System cleaner through.

You could drive more sane. Your right foot has a profound impact on mileage.

I got 8L/100km last week and 8.2L/100km the week before. I don't know how to convert it to miles per gallon sorry.

This was done in alot of stop go traffic.

Try a couple bottles of Chevron fuel injector cleaner first. If it does not work, you may need new oxygen sensor. I am only getting 24 mpg with 70/30 highway/city.

If the OP is driving conservatively and still seeing 18mpg, I seriously doubt some Techron fuel additive is the answer, and I'm a huge proponent of using Chevron fuels if they're available to you.

I would first start with a full tune-up, including cap, rotor, plug wires and spark plugs (gapped properly). Also, almost forgot, check your tire pressure. If those don't resolve the problem to some extent then you might want to check into the O2 sensor and more.

How are fuel cost estimates and miles on a tank determined?
Fuel cost estimates are based on 45% highway driving, 55% city driving, 15000 annual miles and a fuel cost of $ 2.88 per gallon . You may customize these values to reflect the cost of fuel in your area and your own driving patterns.

Fill-up cost and the distance you can travel on a tank are calculated based on the combined MPG and the assumption that you will re-fuel when your tank is 10% full.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's the difference between air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions?
Air pollution refers to vehicle emissions that are harmful to human health and/or cause smog. Greenhouse gases refer to emissions that cause global climate change.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do some vehicles have more than one air pollution score?
Some vehicles are available in multiple emission versions that look the same but have different air pollution scores. Unfortunately, it is difficult to distinguish between similar models.

If you click on the link "Show Detailed Air Pollution Information" above, it will display the emission standard and the 12-digit underhood engine ID. You can identify the cleaner car by matching the engine ID listed above to the Underhood Label Identification Number on the vehicle.

Note: In some cases, manufacturers choose to certify identical vehicles to different emission standards. In these cases, the vehicles will have the same engine ID.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greenhouse gas emissions expressed in CO2 equivalents. The greenhouse gas estimates presented here are "full fuel-cycle estimates" and include the three major greenhouse gases emitted by motor vehicles: carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane. Full fuel-cycle estimates consider all steps in the use of a fuel, from production and refining to distribution and final use. Vehicle manufacture is excluded. with about 50/50 of my miles coming from freeway/around town I get average of 30mpg. If you get on it, you can easily drop below the 25mpg. Our engines are very much like this, and if you push that pedal down and give it gas, it gulps like no one's business.

How big is a MR2's tank? I've got a celica but with a 13 gallon tank. City i get about the same as above 220-235(on average) Highway, i never really drove that far for a full tank but i do know that at half a tank... literalyl on the half mark... I got 228 Highway. That's about doing 80+ for about 3-4 hours. (My columbia sc runs ) I reset my ticker everytime i get gas because i know how far my car can go on however much i put in.

Just soes ya know. MPG is a meaningful number in terms of engine performance. Miles per tank is only useful in calculating roughly how long it'll be until you can pee again on road trips.

Oh yea i know. But i do divide the my miles by the number a gallons and get my "avg" mpg. If i get 18, somethings wrong :o). Unless i've been beating the heck out of it. But i get about 22-24 city. I never burn my air even if it's 95 degrees outside... I gotta change that habit. I just hate the restrtiction on the engine. lol

And with the whole "tank" thing. IMO I highly doubt that half a tank is really 6.5gallons (for me). Why the heck will i get about 200 for the first half and about a 100 for the other half

14 gallon? THATS GAY. What the deuce? (no pun intended) That tiny light weight car's got a bigger tank. No fair.
