struts built in or replaceble

i have a question about our rear 91mr2 struts. how do you replace the rear struts? is it something you pull out from its housing? where the coil springs is sitting at?

There's a large gland nut that holds it into the housing.

Yes, your Shocks are strut inserts as we like to call them. Basically to remove the shocks, you need to take out the strut housing, remove the springs, and then replace the strut inserts with some new ones.
