So i need a new engine.....
So im on the highway last night, going about 140 k/h and suddenly, all my engine lights pop on!... i put the car in neutral and then back to fifth and they disappear but then the nastiest knocking sound started coming from my engine bay. i couldnt stop right then and there so i had to keep going till the next exit. at firts i thought it was like a heat shield touching my differential or one of the polleys but then i poped the lid and realized the KNOCKING was coming directly from my engines head.
My friends talon ran into a similar problem after he pushed 21 psi on the track with upgraded injectors (but the stock fuel pump ). anyways, i was thinking of doing my swap to the 3S-GTE over this winter, but i guess im going to need one ahead of time. the shop i wanted to do the swap at, is located 3 hours away from my house and it would cost me a fortune to tow my car there... if there is anyone in the forum that knows of a reliable shop in montreal or close to it i would appreciate it if you guys let me know.Thx. |

You can find 5SFEs for $50-100 bucks if you look hard enough and usually they require minimal work and bits and pieces to get back together.
To me that cost justifies being able to drive somewhere to get a swap done. My $50 5SFE lasted me over a year and took a hell of a lot of beating, not to mention multiple autocrosses. |

Thanks for all the input guys... finally i have decided to tow the car to the shop myself... i will have to rent a car hauler and pay my buddys gas for his truck, but its gonna be cheaper than anyhting else. The caa idea was pretty bright, but the only inconvenince is that i would have to go to the shop myself as weel, so i would end up driving there and back anyways, so i might as well bring the car on my own. the guy doing my swap is the most tructed mr2 mechanic specialist in all of quebec....its gonna cost me 4,000 for engine, tranny, gauges, wiring fluids, labor....etc.
i hope to get her running again soon; although it sux that i blew the 5s, im still kinda happy that im getting the turbo engine a season ahead ![]() |
