2.0 head on a 2.2?
Would it work right? it looks exactly the same as the 2.2. someone told me that the compression difference would make more power, is that true?

nope
and your compression ration mostly relies on your pistons/bore. If you want to change your compression ratio, look at pistons and headgasket. |

just port your 5s head and do a thinner head gasket like Phoenix said. That'll get you flowing better and up your compression. If you're looking for the advantage from the cams and such the 5s ecu won't work with the 3s head. Honestly it'd be cheaper to get cams, do some head work (port and polish), and install a thinner head gasket then to try and swap heads. Look at the NA section stickies.

ok if it works or not putting a head off a smaller anything isnt gonna make more power you see alot of people take the toyota 22R and put the 20R head on it. yea it might make a half or even a full point more compression but what you might gain there you will loose in the flow of the head it will simply not flow as much air. i know some one is thinkin right now "what if you port the little head and then you gain the compression and it flows just as good" my answer why dont you take the bigger head and put it on the smaller engine and turbo or supercharge it then you might have something. it sounds to me like you are kind've in a crunch if it was me i would bolt the head on if it bolts on, then turn the the motor with a wrench and check piston to valve clearance and if thats all good calculate the exact compression ratio and if you arent over about 10.5:1 you will be able to run good pump gas i would drive it like that but only for temporary until you get a new head.

There is no 2.0L S series head that will raise compression putting it on a 5sfe. The 3sfe will be the same and the 3sgte and 3sge will lower compression. Sounds like you have a 3sfe head though if they look the same.

Right there!!!!! MR2STEALTH if you have any 5sfe question that is the guy to ask mrturrari may have forgotten more about the 5sfe than most of the guys on here ever knew. (No offense intended for those with knowledge) I would highly advise you seek out and follow his advice.

2.0 Head on 2.2
Well I have a 2.2 and a 2.0 Turbo head laying around. I heard it will work. Has to be tuned because the cams are different and the injectors are bigger. I also heard with that head on it will be able to handle more boost then the 2.0 motor. Please Give me some Advice message me. Is there a chance I should just take the cams and injectors out of the 2.0 head and put them in the 2.2? Hit me up Thanks

One way to think about it... you cannot just put a 3s head on a 5sfe. It has never been done and is just too much work.
You can however put the 5s block and crank in a 3sge or 3sgte. Pretty much everything else has to come from the 3s, the wiring, ECU, sensors, distributor, cams, manifolds, all of it. Pistons can be from the 5s if you ghetto it but should really be custom made. |
