All you need is the cheapest NGK copper plugs you can find and OE plug wires. OE plug wires can be a little more expensive than some of the aftermarket alternatives but they're well worth it. For example, bosch wires have horrible build quality.

Part of the reason I like coppers and change them every third oil change is it forces me to check 'em out and see how the tips look. Same reason I do all my own oil changes on the 2. Have to get under there and check things out.

Nothing wrong with that of course. It's just that you're spending money that you don't need to. You're gaining some longevity out of that but not enough to overcome the difference in $$.

Coppers dont need replacing every 3-5k on an NA car.
Have a buddy with a Mazda Protege MP3. Car had 99k miles on it, on the STOCK plugs. Stock plugs are NGK BK5REs just like an NA MR2 I think. 99k miles on COPPERS. It still ran fine. We just replaced em cause they had so many miles on em. |

It's more like 9-12k miles and only when I'm running the car in HPDEs. As I said, it's in part because then I pull the plugs out and inspect them. When you work your car as hard as I do mine you really have to be on top of maintenance or it will go kaboom.
