Best Transient Response with a 5sfe
Not really looking to build a dyno chart car or a dedicated 1/4 mile car out of this, but rather an all around really fun car. Now don't get me wrong it is already a ton of fun, but I want to improve.
As is I am 100% stock. Of course as usual and specifically with a 5sfe I/H/E/C and some headwork. This will go a long way. What are you guys feeling under the curve butt dyno wise. Estimate or clock your 0-60 times and if you have time sheets to back a 1/8th mile and 60ft or even a 1/4 mile time I would love to see it. Basicly to get where I want to be at least with numbers 60ft being 2.0 or so maybe slightly better. (keep in mind I am planning to run fd3s wheels for the weight and size) 0-60 5.5-6? not sure if an n/a 5s is going to achieve that hence why i am asking. 1/8th mile would love to get as close to a 9 or 9.5 as possible, the quarter low 14's I think is probably the barrier without power adders like FI or Juice. Preferably lets put the limitations to what we are changing to keeping the stock trans, stock ecu or at least nothing more than a piggyback. And no Frankenstein head swaps or internal swaps. Lets keep stock bottom end as well. I have read about 10 pages back and the stickies. I have seen a little hope in posts with people not just asking for i want 200hp and a 13'sec daily n/a car. I would be happy with some of the higher n/a dyno's but what is that translating to in transient response and acceleration. Forgive me for asking the same dam thing for the 10,000th time. :P |

0-60 in 5.6 secs? doubtful for the NA. Although, that would be nice... Everyone dreams of this stuff, but first I would start shedding useless weight, Cams, exhaust, headers, lightweight rims and be done with it...IMO

Pretty much not wanting to do any advanced weight loss, except for my own fat but lol. Light weight suspension is in the works as well, was just curious to see what the 5s would be capable up with a decent midway build.

I know my stock 5S at the 1/8th pulled a best of a 10.2XXX I forgot the 60ft time with a reaction time of .03. Im sure i could probably get it to atleast a 10.1 because i was on bald and im mean bald ass falkens. Unfortunately my 5S blew about a month later so i never had a chance to go back. Though im pretty sure with new tires and a Hotshot header i could have gotten easily a 10 flat.
But anything past that will take some serious work. Cams and headwork have proven to be the best bang for your buck on the 5SFE. I think the current record for HP is 145whp or so for a 5SFE. And the current record for a NA 5SFE with no NOS is a 14 flat or 14.1/14.2 with slicks. |

14's are easy and common for cammed 5sfes.

as big as you can afford.. keep in mind after the webcam 294 grind you must address fuel and timing. around ~250+ degrees you'll really want to start stepping up compression.
you can just toss in webs 294 grind.. which makes it an attractive, affordable cam solution. everything else starts compounding costs and supporting mods. |

I was reading and that is basically the conclusion I had come to any further and you start losing big time on the gains vs costs.

gains vs cost is always tempered by personal budgets, values, etc
I've seen guys spend 4 figures for 2whp... if you're in a tight enough competition class or whatnot, that infinitesimal stuff becomes a big deal\ the best stock times I've seen from a 5SFE are just ever so slightly quicker than my times: 15.907 @ 82.68 on a 2.147 60' traps have been as high as 85 flat... |
