Tune Up time

Well it's about that time I did a tune up on my car and I was wondering if the TwosRUs tune up kit that includes "Distributor Cap, Rotor, 4 NGK BKR6E-11 spark plugs and a set of STI plug wires" is a good option or if there's a better combination that I should get. something to keep in mind, I'm kind of on a budget since my insurance is ridiculous on this thing.

Hell yes. It's a good combination and it comes with everything. I'm not sure about the STI plug wires since i never used them, I have NGK plug wires, but i'm sure they'll work fine.

Thanks for the tip to go through Aaron at Lithia!

I only have two speeding tickets on my record, and that's it and I'm getting quoted around $600 for six months at state minimum coverage.. Do you guys really have perfect driving records or something?

as far as the tune up goes, the only thing i would get different are the plugs. i guess those are just a lower quality replacment. the guy at napa yesterday when i was getting stuff for my tune up said that those are the v-power series and that the platinum series are what the stock replacment for our engines are. they also make an iridum as well. as far as the insurance goes, im 22, 3 speeding tickets, about 4 exhaust tickets (even though they dont go towards insurance) and im paying about 450 every six months so thats 75 per month.

The plugs are fine. I've been using them for the past 4.5 years now, and others in the community years before me. They don't cost a lot because they're copper, but they're effective.

They are cheap enough that I change my plugs with each oil change, every 6-8 months.

my record is, uhh, not good - $65/mo for my 1991 NA. For full coverage and a bit of a record $100/mo isn't terrible, but you can do better.

stick with OEM for tune-up parts - Lithia is a great vendor for that

Hot damn! I gotta change my rip-off artist insurance company. I was paying $69/month for my 91 NA and just got a ticket going 42 in a 30 and it jumped up to $105/month. 1 ticket in 2+ years.

And its tune-up time for me too. I work at the Toyota Dealership so I can get my OEM parts pretty easily and at a good price.

Don't forget the fuel filter! That is if you don't even know when it was ever changed.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. And I would've completely forgot about the fuel filter so thanks for reminding me Davis. What's the verdict on the spark plugs? Should I go with the copper ones since I'm on a budget?

thats all fine and dandy.. or you could run platinum plugs and change them every 60K miles instead of every 3K, like the car was build for. it wont make a difference in power or economy either.

i run platinum now because its 100% pointless to run coppers and change them constantly. theres no gain in anything. few more bucks, and 60K miles of not worrying about it.

copper plugs will cost you more money since you have to change them more often.

so whats the verdict on the tune up kit m8 ? im thinking of buying that myself but not sure yet .. BKR7E Spark Plugs and what about the STI spark plug wires ? the dealership around my place has a very limited quantity of MR2 parts (they mostly have parts that other cars use too in stock) . so instead of waiting for like 1 month or so to get my parts id rather wait a week .. ( they actually took 1 1/2 month to get me the temp and starter sensors..) they also charge alot more for parts ( i could buy a part from a dealer in the US and price+shipping would be cheaper than the dealer over my country and i live in the far east of Europe :S)

If I remember right, I bought those exact same plugs at Pep Boys for around $5 (the only problem is remembering to change it)

I'de go with a stock cap and wires
