missing one screw on distributor cap
as i was taking out the distributor cap today, the head of the screw snapped on me due to rust. so when i put the new one on i can only put two screws back, one on top and one on the right side.
is that going to be ok? just 2 screws? if not, how do i get the remaining screw left out outta there? this is the same thing that happened when i was putting my headers on. im missing one bolt because it snapped on me and the rest of the bolt is in there. help pls. thanks |

Probably not ok as it may damage the pins when the rotors rotate coz the cap is not properly secured.

I'd be more concerned with water getting in there every time it rained or you took it through a car wash.
Is there anything left of the screw sticking out of the head? If there is you might be able to get a cup style easy out on it and back it out. If it's flush or recessed then you will have to see if you can find an easy out small enough to fit inside the barrel of the screw. ![]() If you can't you will have to drill it out and re-tap it. I doubt that you'll find them as a loaner at any of the parts shops. Pretty much any auto shop worth their salt should have them on hand. If you have a Harbor Freight near you they should have them pretty inexpensively.

You have the tap and new bolt figured out yet? When you drill it be damn careful you don't eat up too much of the head, the aluminum is a lot softer than the steel of the screw.

I did the same thing on mine, ran it like that for a long while before I parked it in the garage for years. You just reminded me I should fix that soon.
