Greddy exhaust

Hello all,

I recently purchased a used Greddy eshaust for my 91 N/A 2. The car is an automatic transmission and has the CA emmisions installed on it.

The guy I purchased it from took it off his N/A 2 because he was having a turbo engine installed and had said that the exhaust was for a N/A model and that he could not use it any longer.

I had the exhaust installed. It fit perfectly but my mechanic told me that he had some concerns. The muffler can was too close to the underside of the car according to the mechanic and he was concerned about the heat buildup.

This got me curious and so I checked the Greddy website to make sure that I had the right muffler. I did not find any exhaust on the Greddy's lineup that was made for the N/A model. Only the turbo model. Did I make a mistake in purchasing this muffler? It has a dual pipe on it and as I stated earlier bolted right up to the car but I was very concerned with the comment of the mechanic and that I did not find a model made for the 91 N/A 2.

Are there any bad effects to installing this type of exhaust? Has anyone installed a Greddy on a none turbo model? Has it worked out for you or have you had any problems. Worse yet will it pass smog here in CA. According to the guy I bought it from he recently had the car smogged with the exhaust and had no problems with it.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help,

David

Well if it passed smog then I dont think you will have a problem. Also if it bolted up fine then it's probably made for the car. Do you have any pictures of it installed?

its just a muffler not a full exhaust. and why would your mechanic be concerned of heat buildup? the only thing above the muffler is the trunk bottom which has a shield on it anyway.

Pictures of Greddy Exhaust

Here are some pictures of the exhaust. Sorry their not very good. With the car lowered it's pretty hard to get any good pics of it.

yea thats definetly the SP. i have the turbo sp on my NA

the only difference is piping diameter ( which really doesnt matter with this exhaust because i believe when dynoed the NA greddy SP lost power). i just love how its not too loud yet not too quiet when WOT

and the heat thing wont affect anything. Ive had many things in my trunk when driving over 130+ miles straight and they did not feel hot or warm at all.

The pipings for the turbo and N/A are different. There is a N/A version as well as the Turbo version of the GReddy SP. The thread starter got one for the N/A, hence it bolt up directly. You can get any exhaust to fit the N/A, just the matter of redoing the piping.

Just bought a turbo SP for my NA. There is a slight gap to fill....3inches or so.

Oh I see, I figured it would be somewhat different. I noticed Mr. Deuce saying he had a turbo exhaust on his NA. Do they even sell the greddy for the MR2's anymore, I don't see them on their site anymore.

i was given a damaged greddy exhaust (the part which connected to the stock exhaust had rusted out). i had it welded to the stock NA flange. I think the exhaust is discontinued

It is discontinued and has been for quite some time. You might get lucky and find one on the web where it has been in a warehouse sitting. Or get reeeally lucky and find a nice used one on these forums.
