ENGINE HEAD LEAK!!!
Ok i believe my head gasket is leaking.iv never changed a head gasket before, it seems to be leaking next to the EFI ( Elecrical Fuel Injection) intake on the under side of the engine.does anyone have any tips for me on how take on this job? & do i need to mess with the fuel in order to remove the head? as you can see there's a bunch of gunk.the previous owner raced the car but i really havn't notices this mess tell a few weeks ago.it really doesn't leak very much at all but i guess at one point they ripped the head gasket i cleaned the area up a little 4 weeks ago know its dirty again.there's black gunk on the block but that was there from a blown head gasket in the past? & they didn't properly install a new one i guess???

you know i have noticed that i have the same issue with my 5S. i know that my cam gear seals have been leaking, but i can't figure out why there is oil all over my block right under the head. i assume that if the HG was leaking like that there would be other issues evident, like milkshakey oil or white smoke out the tailpipe, but i don't have either. weird situation we are in i think. i am trying to get some of my buddies from the socal chat thread to lake a look at this thread and give us their two cents, cuz i am very curious about other people's thoughts on this issue....

mine looked like that the whole time i was NA, i put like 30,000 miles on it in a year, never had any issues, i think that the 5s is just a dirty motor!

First step.. Spray with engine degreaser and steam clean everything on that part. Let it dry etc, clean the whole surroundings, drive the car and inspect....
But yeah, replacing the head gasket is quite a lot of work. Timing belt has to be removed, head has to be resurfaced, you might need to do the same with the block to make sure (head/block line up perfectly flat) before putting the new gasket in. While the head is out, its probably wise to replace the valve seals as well. I have a leak myself and I believe its my worn out valve seals. I do get a little white smoke then gone after like 2 sec. I only get it when I start the car like 2 or 3 out of 10 times maybe. I inspected the same area on mine as in your picture and mine is clean. I also need to replace the front seals (oil pump seal, crank seals etc...) |
