Electrical problems
I am trying to track down what seems to be a short in my electrical system. The previous owner of the car said it was blowing the relays for the starter and alt. I replaced the engine and body harness but no luck. The car starts and runs great but while running or in the on position the power to the cluster goes out. I can get it to come back on if i move the key around a little bit, but this procedure also has the reverse effect. the car doesnt die or run different though i have only gone down the street and back with it. Could this be an ignition switch or cylinder problem? why would the cluster go out because of the ignition switch? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hey...did you get this figured out?
From my understanding, the gauge cluster is wired so that the ignition switch must be functional for it to get power. If you ignition switch is off, the gauges do not get power. If your ignition switch is on, then they power up. |
