The best sounding 5s I heard had a stock turbo muffler, aftermarket headers, and a stock b-pipe with the cat intact. Don't know if he had an intake or not, it didn't sound like it.

Seems like a cheap way to improve sound, turbo mufflers are pretty cheap.

plus, theres zero gains to be made from running like that.. actually you'll lose quite a bit of power, so why do it? .
+1.

I've done it before. It's a stupidly idiotic modification. The only reason I did it, is because I didn't have a muffler at the time, it was on order.

I cut the stock NA muffler open and partially gutted the insides. Left the three chambers intact but took out the cross pipes. Then I cap'ed the inlet and ran the downpipe straight into the center of the muffler. It's mellow at idle, raspy under throttle, not terribly annoying anyways. Did it for a V6 swap.
