Axle help.....
So by trying to remove my hub, which I did succeed, I managed to pull the axle apart.....doh.
Its the passenger side rear axle (just fyi) and is still attached. Anyway, I took the outside seal on the boot off, folded the boot back....still looks good and will probably reuse it. Looks like I pulled the axle hub thing off the main shaft. The pin is still in place so it looks like I got a lucky pull while the pin was closed in and it just came off. Can I just very carefully close the pin and push the hub back in, reseal the axle hub with a huge pipe clamp and call it good? Or should I pull the axle...and basically put it back together piece by piece? all the bearings are still in there and there is a good amount of grease still in/on everything. I wiped a tad bit off the end of the shaft to inspect the pin and i guess it looks okay. Any tips or advice would be grateful, can't say I have had much experience with taking apart axles. - Dave |

So you were pulling on the axle and managed to pull the boot off?
It's really not that big a deal. If you didn't actually break the boot, just undo the strap with a pair of needle nose pliers, put the boot back in place, and just clamp the band back down. If you lost a lot of grease, you might refill it. Rebooting axles is easy. |

not the axle boot....the entire outside Joint. The boot just made it to where it was hanging there. So when i removed the boot, the entire joint just fell down.

Damn tough break. But $60 isn't too bad, I didn't know they were that cheap.

At least you can get through NAPA. NAPA around here doesn't seem to be able to get any parts for a 2. Sorry to hear about your luck, good luck getting it back together.

yeah, the only thing is I ordered it and its coming from Texas via ups and I don't know if I will be able to get it in time and get it together in time for a meet in a week and a half
![]() Yeah, not bad though on the price. I brought the joint by a shop today and they wanted $65 dollars for the hours work to fix it...if they could fix it since it was stuck in there pretty good. live and learn |

You have to buy the metal straps that hold them on if you wrecked them on the way off, a bunch of parts stores stock them to various sizes. Or if you use good quality cable ties (the ones with a metal tab for the ratchet are best) you can use them instead, I use 3 on each boot on my racecar pulled tight with pliers (2 normally is good enough) and they hold better than the metal band, a honda technician showed me that, blew my mind how simple it was
