Question Engine Swap Options

Hi all I just got a 1993 MR2 5S-FE a month ago it has 235,000mi on it the prior owner took good care of it but I fear it is going to start costing me a lot of money. I was wondering what would be a simple swap other than stock and if there is a chilton or any other repair manual that I can get.

I'm pretty sure you have a 5SFE if it's stock. You can swap in a 3SGE, 3SGTE, BEAMS, or many of the V6s from various Toyotas, but it's recommended that you get used to the handling of the car first. Take it out to the local AutoX to see what's up. Experience the excitement of oversteering without the dangers you face in the street.

The 3SGE and GTE would be the easiest.

The difference is the 5sfe is gay and the 3sge is awesome

The 3s is 2L instead of 2.2 and revs higher and makes more power, they are a nice little package and not badly priced(real cheap over here). The BEAMS is a 3sge with awesomeness variable valve timing and puts down 200hp n/a stock. The 3sgte is turbo and awesomeness for its potential. Take your pick

I had 245,000miles before I did my swap and it never gave me a problem it was still running great I auto-x'd it once a month and did some DE's with it too for the last 2 years!!! The best budget build na wise would be a gen 2 3sge swap its about 160hp and you can find them for around or under 1k, if your tranny is shifting good you can reuse it aswell for wiring PM MR220V on here he'll take care of you! All in all if you can swap motors your self you can spend about 2k and have the swap complete! I've spent about $2500 for my beams swap total and I'm loving it! Best of luck!

Wow I have just about the same situation as you. I have a 1993 MR2 n/a 5S-FE with just under 235,000 miles. I'm about ready to put another motor into it. I'm currently planning on putting a gen3 3S-GE in. I'd swap in a gen2 3S-GE because it would be easier, but there's a gen3 3S-GE available locally.

I have an Acura Legend Coupe 6-Speed as well and was planning on selling my MR2 to put money into the Legend, but I am going to try and keep both cars. I just love what both offer me.
