any good harware store should have them in the fastener section(nuts, bolts, washers). NAPA or Checkers should have them as well.

ok so i ran into a problem with the clip to the waste gate. seems that the person who sold me the downpipe didnt tell me he dented it enough to clear the oil filter, but too much so that the flapper to the wastegate wouldnt move. so im stuck with the issue that the flapper wont move close enough to the bar for me to install the clip. not that it would do any good installing the clip because the damn flapper wont flap. i have a stock down pipe i can put on, but it wont bolt up to the exhaust and im not sure it will clear the oil filter.

in the pic you can see my problem. there is at least an inch between the flapper and the bar and the flapper will not move from that position.

That sucks! The stock down pipe will clear the oil filter.

And is it stuck open? or am I looking at it wrong.

im thinking its stuck open because im not boosting (or i have another problem) but it may be stuck closed because i dont think it has room to open. the pic was taken from the bottom of the car looking upward. any ideas?

i could use the stock dp but i dont have the piping that goes from it to the exhaust. (maybe catalytic converter?)

Its raining right now and Im a little tipsy, so I can look in the morning for ideas. yeah, what bolts on right after the DP is the cat. If you are not boosting it sounds like your stuck open. May need to take the DP off the turbo and make sure the flapper isnt pined up somehow.

Pic of DP/cat (in this pic the cat is bolted in the wrong direction. Another good pic:http://www.mr2.com/forums/turbo-3s-g...down-pipe.html)

Good, strong, 3/8 radiator hose. Good autoparts stores will sell it by the foot from a roll behind the counter.

Oops. I misread the post. I used heavy 3/4 rubber hose and bend protector for the L into the tank. Also heat wrap the return hose because it is very close to the DP. If you have the $, steel braded/heat wrapped is the way to go.

yup. I would heat wrap it either way. The return runs directly between the down pipe and block. I dont have mine wrapped and I am noticing the rubber drying out and it will soon crack. I am just waitint till I need to take off the turbo to replace and wrap the return.

They also sell these bend protectors (looks like a tight coiled spring with a thin strap along one side). This will make bends in the hose and not let it pinch off.

Do you have enough room to pop out some of the dent interfering with the wastegate?

maybe. i'll have to check. it just sucks that i have to take all of the stuff back OFF my car to fix the problem. maybe when i take it off i can knock some space there for the wastegate and possibly make more room for the oil filter.

You shouldnt need to undo the turbo and its lines. just unbolt the DP and remove the oil filter. then you can pull out the DP and see what it needs. You might just have the wastegate stuck open on the dent and just need to flip it down and reinstall the DP.

If you do find out you have to beat the dent back, go a little at a time because there is not much room between the wastegate and oil filter. Knocking it back too much might cause issues with the filter clearance

A top pick of the down pipe/turbo might help in diagnosing the problem.
