Installing new TPS (Throttle Postion Sesnor) Help!

I just bought a new throttle position sensor and I am reading the BGB and I am confused... They mention in Step 2 to "Apply vacuum hose to throttle opener"
I see the little hoses on the throttle buy I have no clue what that step implies

Could someone help me out on installing this thing The multimeter job is also confusing

you need to apply vacuum to the diaphragm on the throttle body with a vacuum pump so that it isn't opening the throttle any, then you'll be able to accurately set the TPS where it should be.

under throttle body for 5s-fe it says things about check vacuum for different ports and connect vacuum to throttle opener, I dont understand if I plug one if these tubes to the opener or have a seperate pump?

sorry about what i posted earlier i thought you were trying to measure the vacuum. now that i reread your post and got my BGB out and read the throttle body section i see what your talking about. they dont word it the best in the book but all you are doing is reconnecting the vacuum hose i marked yellow in the pic (excuse the dirty engine). the question i have for you is if your installing a new sensor why are you doing the steps you would do to test a tps?

Well i thought when installing a new tps you have to adjust and the steps say apply that vacuum and something about a feeler gauge and the ohmeter continuity

the bgb is pretty confusing it looks like an easy job

you might be right, you could very well have to adjust it when you install a new on im not quite sure on that but you would definately need to go and get a feeler gauge set and ohmeter

If it was me...I would disregard the vac pump and just look down manually close the butterfly with force. Then just hook up the multi meter check for 0 or whatever it tells you in the BGB at Closed. and 5V or whatever at full open you will have to adjust it otherwise your mixture will be off. Its pretty much slap it on check it at closed...check it at open..adjust for high voltage. Set butteryfly for low voltage.

im pretty sure its got a step by step in the BGB and you just shut it manually by turning the wheel that the throttle cable connects too

hey when i adjust the tps at full throttle does the engine need to be running? wide open throttle that would be very loud ...

I think you're making this more complicated than it really is.

The car has to be on, but not running. You can move the throttle plate by hand. You don't need a vacuum pump, take off the intake elbow at the manifold so you can see the inside of the throttle body and then physically push the throttle plate all the way closed, that's what 1stgen is talking about.

What year is your car? Is it a 3 or 4 wire TPS?

its a 3 wire tps.
