poly mounts/Or DIY stock mount fill?
ok, so i need new mounts and i have looked at all the threads..
The question i need answered is will filling my stock mounts with 3M window fill be just as stiff and reliable as the full poly mounts from twosrus? Im just looking to save a little cash maybe.. |

im using the poly mounts and i can definately tell you i can hear and feel the engine alot more now since it transfers more vibrations through the mounts. that being said i definately dont feel the engine jerk as much as it did with the stock mounts when i get on it

I was told that having the mounts too stiff is a bad thing? Someone in phoenix ripped out a tranny mount doing this. How long has everyone been running these mounts?

i cut up a timing belt and wrapped it around the rubber
works fine. 1000x less annoying than the kirks. i couldnt stand the kirks once i started actually driving the car more than a couple miles a day. theres no tangible benefit to rattling your brains out with solid mounts. people think its "racy", but its not. its just annoying. id recommend new mounts, but if you're just trying to save some cash, the windoweld will be fine. you gotta remember that our cars are old now. most of the engine clunking is from completely, absolutely shot engine mounts. new mounts will stop the engine clunking around.

I ripped a mount clean through the body on one car, it was a stock mount. I was about 5 feet off the ground doing 60mph just before that happened but I think you would be unlucky to snap something or doing things that would cause more concern than a gearbox mount. I run filled ones now and have been for about 4 years on one car.

yes ,well my stock mounts are shot, and new ones cost 50 bucks a piece compared to 80 for the front and back solids from twosrus.
I just want to save a little cash for now.So i am going to fill them. But filling the broken mounts will work just as well right? It will stiffin the engine up better than stock mounts right? Thats all i really want to know. I can careless as for noises and vibrations ,the MR2 wasnt designed to be quiet the engine is not even 2ft away from the back of your head for crying out loud.... |

It should improve shot mounts and should be stiffer than stock but not rigid and hard, I run ones filled with sikaflex (something like that anyway). I used that and haven't had an issue, its just I brought white not black since its all they had on the shelf and white sticks out but not a problem otherwise.

the stock mounts work. no downsides. aftermarket mounts work, noisy buzzy downside with no benefits. if you're just trying to save money, go ahead and fill them, but no sense trying to convince yourself you're doing yourself a favor making your car rattle. |

Hence why solid metal mounts are on drag cars or the engine is welded to the chassis ... Yes i know im not making a ridiculous amount of power, but solid mounts will do there job non the less. and as long as my engine stops bouncing back and forth ...and i dont have to pay 100 dollars for two stock mounts ,i will be happy. Back on topic..3M windowseal is good and cheap or is there something better to fill them with?? |

i have m3 windowseal in my car and don't feel any stiffer then stock but the motor move's a lot less now and it was 18 buck's for a tube at auto zone. oh and i have less wheel hop too and get the black window weld it's better.

I run hard mounts on my racecar because its whats easiest. I also would wear and tear the mounts if they had much movement I thrash the crap outa the car on gravel ![]() That sikaflex is what was recommended to me, your basically looking for something that is really hard and rubbery, I used a clear window sealer and even though I let it cure it "squished" out (technical term) |
