trans fluid for NA 91 2.2 CONFUSION
I found a thread on this and it was in conflict with my owners manual. My manual for the 5sfe says Dexron II which is GM automatic trans fluid but many posts suggest heavy weights like 75-90 or 80-90 gear oil. This seems very thick compared to Dexron II or equivalent? Someone suggested Pennsoil Synchromesh or something like that. Royal Purple was mentioned but my main confusion is around weight? can someone clarify this. Thanks

Many people have had a lot of success with the Redline MT-90, if your tranny is clunky or grinding the MT-90 seems to really help out with that.

ive used redline and synchromesh in two 91's. the royal purple was a waste of money and incomparable to redline!

I tried 6 parts places and no Redline so I settled on the Pennzoil Synchromesh and recognize no difference but it shifted fine before- I just wanted to make sure I had clean fluid since I just bought the car. What came out was definitely pretty black and had that famous burned Dexron smell. I was given a bit if backyard advise from another owner and he said he used the Pennzoil and then mixed about 4-8 ounces of Lucas Transmission oil additive - the Lucas bottle said OK for all transmission types to help with seal and gasket conditioning. I guess it cannot hurt so I did this since I got the Lucas for free. Again no difference noticed. Thanks to those who repsonded. First 4 weeks of owning the 91 and so far still a blast and holding up fine.

I've never seen Redline in any stores, you have to order it online.
