Ebrake light on? when i press brakes down hard?

Hey guys i have a 91 mr2 Auto. And its my first car so honor get the chance to like own this baby. well its been treating me well. had the car for almost 6months now. well i pretyy much change everything well the problem is when i press down the brakes i notice that my light brake is on even though im not using the e brake. my friends think its fluid but my fluid is fine. idk if its my brakes that are rubbering. i check the other form and a guy told me that it could be a ebrake switch problem or a fluid problem. i might have a seized caliber but how would i know if i have that problem. but any kind of help will be great

im thinking fluid also. the light that comes on for the ebrake is the same that comes on for fluid problems....the only difference is that the light only comes on when the ebrake is engaged if it is the ebrake that is making it come on. if it is coming on when you press the brakes, the fluid is more than likely low. if its not low, move on to another issue.

to check for a seized caliper, you would have to take the wheels off and look at the rotors and pads. if the rotors or pads are wearing unevenly (one side of a single rotor or pad set is wearing more than the other side on a single wheel) you may have a seized caliper. another way to check this is to take the caliper off of the rotor and depress the piston. if the piston is extremely hard to depress, wont depress, or wont push out when the pedal is pushed....you have a seized caliper. if it moves freely inward and outward, look elsewhere.

other issues you may have:
bad master cylinder
bad proportion valve
crimped lines
and of course the ebrake switch (but i doubt this one)

but start at the fluid level and work your way around the car eliminating issues as you go. we are all here to help if you need it.

do u think its still a good idea to drive it while i have this problem. i know it doesnt seem a major problem but i feel like it could be maybe idk?

I would think random brake failure could turn into a major problem. Especially if it happens when you are getting off,.. say an interstate?

i agree.....brake issues are ones that i like to fix ASAP because you dont want to be going 60 or 70 mph and all of a sudden you have no brakes.

i had the same problem and it was the master cylinder that needed replaced i just spend the 50 bucks and put it in. took about 15 min then had to bleed the brakes

good. i dont know if its the brakes because we change the brakes on the auto mr2. i change the pads so its still brand new. i change the rear. havent change the front yet but idk what esle it could be. but i have been smelling rubber a lot.

do you smell rubber all the time or is it just every once and a while and are you able to tell where its coming from once you get out of the car?

i sometimes smell it from the rims. like my right front rim was making noises when i didnt had my sound system on.

my mechanical guy says its the caliper so i should be go to go once i get that taken care of. tahnks

theres nothing on your calipers that would turn the brake light on.

its possible your MC is so dirty and nasty that the sensor is sticking down though.. not uncommon on an old car.
