3S-FE
What are the main differences in performance etc between a 5S-FE and a 3S-FE. I know the 3S is 2.0 liter. Which is better etc?

3S-FE is a low output wimp, stick with the 5SFE.

Yeah, I have a 5SFE in my car now, but its blown or something. Wont start. It was making some horrible noise, like quarters shaking in a glass jar. Then it died and never started again. I am trying to get a replacement, but everyone wants $1200-1600 for the 5SFE...I could get a clip for that price. But...its also an automatic so that isnt an option. The only other thing they offer is a 3SFE, which as i suspected, blows ***. I just thought I'd ask you guys in case there was something about it i didnt know.
Lesson learned, dont buy the first MR2 you see... So looks like im selling a shell of a 91 Red NA |

Well, 5SFEs usually pop up now and then for just a few hundred bucks. Have you thought about pulling one from the junk yard? You could also convert to stick if you wanted.

That's outrageous price for 5S, have a look around the boards a bit, you're sure to find one for way less.
Or get a 3S-GE, those came auto. I hear engine importers have them for reasonable coin. |

Does not matter what engine you get, they are all the same auto or manual.

if you cant find a 5sfe for a couple hundred bucks, you're not looking nearly enough. people use these things for boat anchors! mcdonalds gives them away with happy meals! they're really, really common.
dont buy a 3sfe. ever. |

No they're not. The crank shaft must be drilled for a pilot bearing in order to work with a manual transmission. Yeah dude that price is WAY too much. Look around and I guarantee you can get them for much cheaper either from an online importer or from a yard. But my advice is to do a 3S-GTE conversion =P (That's always my advice) For that kind of money you can get a turbo clip. |
