ok, my MR2 runs fine for now...but i am having AC issues. over the past summer, i noticed that my AC no longer blows cold. another issue is that when i turn the AC on it squeals really loud. the squealing shuts off as soon as i turn off the AC...
what do i need to look into to get my AC blowing cold again and to remove the scary squeal issue? the squealing is especially loud when i turn it on while the car is moving. |

Well if you get no cold air i would check if the compressor is turning on.
it might have seized and making the belt squeal causing you to have no a/c and that loud noise. things that can cause it to do that is. loose belt. glazed belt. seized compressor oily belts. things that can cause no a/c broken compressor (seized or not compressing) a/c leak somewhere |

thank you. whats the easiest way to check if the compressor actually turns on?
also, is the AC compressor something i can replace without dropping or tilting the motor? if not, i will have to look into doing that while im doing my timing belt change. |

turn it on and look at it and make sure the front part of it is spinning with the rest on the assembly where the belt is on.
if the front part is not spinning its not turning on. the belt just moves the pulley but the magnet that attracts the front part is not engaging. also make sure the belt is not loose or oily or glazed (shiny like a donut lol) if it is replace it. |

damn replacing that belt requires to tilt the motor! is there a better way to replace that belt without having to tilt the motor?

If it is squealing only when you turn it on, it is either the belt as mentioned or the compressor clutch. If the belt is fine and tight, the clutch would be the problem.

Squealing belt = belt slipping. You probably need to replace the belt. Slipping belt = AC compressor not operating at full speed, which means you'll have poor AC performance.
No, it doesn't. |

both you will have to be under the car to slip the belt on the crank shaft pully and over the car to slip it on the ac compressor and tighten it up
